Let's do that crazy Napoli for Ellsbury trade idea.
I just looked up Jacoby Ellsbury's stats, .310/.372/.465 128 OPS+. Is there any way we can go back in time, undo the Vernon Wells trade and actually do that unrealistic, pipedream Napoli for Ellsbury trade?

Boston wouldn't have done it then,
and they still won’t do it, even in our own crack pipe dreams.
My response to your letter of February 19, 1976, is - kiss my ass.
Sincerely,
Bill Baxley, Attorney General

exaclty
that cracked me up then and it does crack me up now – the delusion that they would do that trade at any time.
Better times
When we actually had a trade chip to fantasize about. You can’t trade Vernon Wells even in fantasyland.
Just trying to be positive, which I read somewhere is what we're all about.
I’ll handle the being the optomist thing, if someone else will handle the building a time machine and then somehow convicing Boston to do the trade thing.
Pollyanna is dead. But don't get mad at me, I didn't kill her. Tony Reagins did.
I'll start on the flux capacitor. Give me a couple of days.

I think you'll find him at Halos Heaven.
Specifically, here.
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?

don't think it would've ever been settled until

I don't think there was too much doubt over Ellsbury's value.
But many of us had doubts about what it would take to trade for him, and how he would rebound from injury.
Here’s the monster thread that Subop was mentioning comparing Kalish/Kemp/Ellsbury/Bourjos and others.
Shame about Kalish’s shoulder.
Thanks for linking that thread.
I should have directly linked to the crazy talk rather than just referencing it.
That was my motivation to check in on how well Ellbury was doing.

It would have been a good trade based on raw value
But since most of our troubles now are focused on power and driving in runs, we would have just been better off keeping Napoli, or perhaps packaging him for a better power bat (who isn’t an albatross…ahem ahem). Speed and getting on base have been the least of our problems lately…when you get 10 hits and can’t drive in a damn run, your offense has some serious problems.
