Angels 15th Single is a Walk Off in Extras
Final Score in Los Angeles of Anaheim: Angels 4 Washington Nationals 3 in TEN innings.
Maicer Izturis hit a single up the middle with the bases loaded in the 10th inning to give the Angels a win at home in their first game back at the Big A since June 5. Playing on brand new grass installed courtesy of Bono and the Edge after a two-night U2 stand at Angels Stadium, the Angels
Without pitchers getting ejected for pine tar on their glove or a chance to heartily boo Jose Guillen, the Washington Nationals' quinquennial visit to Anaheim seemed a casual affair. Media coverage of Davey Johnson taking over as manager of the club was heavy on a slow news day.
Ervin Santana tossed 8 innings with 2 solo HRs. Jordan Walden gave up a solo HR with 2 outs in the top of the 9th for his 6th blown save and 3rd consecutive "BS" in a row. Scott Downs pitched a scoreless 10th inning and picked up the W.
While the Nationals launched three solo bombs in regulation, the Angels squeaked out three little runs on 15 singles, grounding into three double plays and stranding 11 baserunners in the first 9 innings.
Peter Bourjos was 4 for 4, hitting a ground rule double in extras for the first Halo extra base hit. Almost the dramatic game winner, the ball bounced into the stands, forcing Alberto Callaspo to stop at 3B. That set up an intentional walk to Bobby Wilson in order to get the force form Izturis, but the force was strong with the Boy King and Pharaoh Maicer slapped on hard up the middle for a walk off, his second of the year and the fourth in his nine season career in the bigs.

LOBsters are not good for Angels
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
But are damn tasty with butter.

Davey Johnson failed his first test.
So completely out of touch with current rosters, he chooses to intentionally walk 1 for 3 Bobby Wilson so that he brings up THE ONE GUY WITH A HALO BAT WE CAN BELIEVE IN.

Have you seen that guy these days?
“Twitter” for him probably needs a cigarette.

Therefore, he's using the Vernon Wells Methodology for paycheck justification?

I get that.
But if you had to pick one single guy to put up to bat in that situation, would you honestly feel more comfortable with anyone on this roster other than Izzy these days? Besides, Izzy has hit into only 38 DP’s his entire career.

38 DPs? wow
Besides, Izzy has hit into only 38 DP’s his entire career.
Thats what Torii refers to as May.
1 out
you are going to have to face izturis most likely either way. Still, its bobby friggin wilson, but its not that crazy
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view--until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.
But you have a chance to face Izzy with a more advantageous situation on the basepaths after that second out.
You could end up with 2 outs and runners at 1 & 2. You might even get a DP (line shot with runner off base). Or you could then pitch around Izzy and load the bases back up with 2 outs instead of one.
Wilson is just a far less reliable hitter this season than Izzy. Izzy is the one I would pitch around to get to Aybar. Not pitch around Wilson to get to Izzy.

2nd place, .500 and 1.5 out of first. I love interleague games.
Not giving up yet... but man this season stinks right now (6/9/11)

This probably deserves it's own post but...
I didn’t really realize exactly how BADLY Vernon has been playing…other than watching him butcher plays in the OF…don’t get me wrong I can see a batting average as well as the next guy…
3 doubles and 1 triple to go with those 9 HR’s, 9 BB’s, and 45 K’s
That is really and truly F’Ugly

Panther for Bourjos
Honorable mention for Santana, who should have started the 9th.
Oh well, a win’s a win
I don't think we should be so critical of Walden yet
I means done great so far. Its only the 2nd homerun hes given up this season. I’m sure he’ll be a good piece in our bullpen for years to come.

Here's a break down of his past 3 blown saves:
Florida: They wanted him to do a 5-out save with runners at the corners. Very difficult.
Dodgers: He was just off that game.
Nationals: Cruising, then threw one mistake pitch.
I’m not too worried about Walden. Maybe he just doesn’t like interleague play? :P
"Just another Halo victory" - Rory Markas
One thing about Wells...
His numbers since June 10th:
.274/.286/.516 (with 5 taters) and a .802 OPS
Not worth 20 million spacebucks, but certainly more of what most of us expected. You know, a decent Juan Rivera at quadruple the cost.
Something I will gladly take at this point.
