Dan Haren Scratch Hardly Itches Angels Staff
Angels righty Dan Haren has been scratched from Saturday's start but this is no cause for concern, either for the club's co-ace nor its pitching staff.
Haren tweaked his lower back throwing a bullpen session on Wednesday in Kansas City. He felt fine on Friday, but the club is taking the precaution of holding off his next start until Tuesday and having the rest of the rotation pitch on normal rest. The Thursday off-day on June 2 has allowed the Angels this luxury.
Weekend lineups look like this then:
SATURDAY: Ervin Santana versus Fatman #1 CC Sabathia
SUNDAY: Joel Piñeiro versus Fatman #2 Bartolo Colon
When the Angels face the Rays for a three game series they will present Tyler Chatwood on Monday, a hopefully rested Haren on Tuesday and Jered Weaver on Wednesday. Another Thursday on June 9 gives every pitcher an extra day's rest anyway. No word on the specifics of the injury have been relayed, nor are there any reports on whether Dan's beard has been affected by all this. Stay tuned!

"Iron Haren"
Who knows – maybe he has tiger blood.
Something has allowed Angels right-hander Dan Haren to be the most durable starting pitcher in baseball over the past six seasons. No one in baseball has made more starts in that time than Haren’s 203 (Derek Lowe has made 202) and no one else can match his stretch of six consecutive seasons with at least 215 innings pitched.
The 30-year-old Haren has not missed a start in that time – or before. He can’t remember missing a start in the major leagues, the minor leagues, in college at Pepperdine or even at Bishop Amat High School in La Puente.
