Our All Time Angels All-Star Moments Countdown continues...
#3 GARRET ANDERSON 2003 AL-STAR GAME MVP
An Angel for life, Garret Anderson had the "underrated player" tag permanently embossed on him even though he already had the game winning hit in the seventh game of the world series when he was voted a starter of the American League All-Star team in 2003. Manager Mike Scioscia would be running the squad and, for the first time in baseball history, the outcome of the game would determine the home field advantage for the playoffs.
Garret won the Homerun Derby at the All Star Game but he was just getting started. He went 3 for 4, with a double and a homerun. His two-run homer in the 6th inning chipped away at a 5-1 National League deficit. He was pinch-ran for in the 8th inning after hitting a one-out double. Melvin Mora scored the tying run in the game in his place.
He held that trophy high.
