A Tale of Two Texas Teams

The Texas Rangers have been the best team in the AL West the past two years because of their explosive offense and decent pitching. They scored a whopping 787 runs in 2010 and have scored 489 so far in 2011 with 64 games to go so they look to be somewhere in that neighborhood again this year. However, a quick look at their splits reveals just how dependent they are on their home-field to win games.

This is what their offense looks like when we break it down.

The big thing that stands out is the 81 of homeruns hit in Arlington. That's one more than the Angels' season total.

Equally as important are their road numbers vs ours. I bet you never would've guessed we are the better offensive team in that respect. We have hit more homeruns, hit for a higher average, gotten on base more often, and outslugged then on the road! if you look carefully, their road averages look an awful lot like the Angels' overall averages.

Facing the Rangers in Arlington is like facing a lineup of Matt Joyce's, while on the road they're batting more like A.J. Pierzynski. I am by no means saying our offense is as good or better than Texas', but It makes you wonder how our offense would do playing half their games in a bandbox like that.
