Angels Take Freeway Series on Ervin Santana Twilight Dodger Dazzler
On the day that Jered Weaver and Howie Kendrick were named to the All Star Game, Ervin Santana pitched like a Hall of Famer. That Old Abe Magic pitched 7.2 innings of 1-run ball. He struck out 8 Frank McCourt employees. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk. Who is this guy?
The Angels beat the Dodgers. The Angels won the 2011 Freeway Series four games to two. That is not even counting the preseason game where Scott Kazmir wiped the dugout Gatorade backwash floors with them.
Of the two games the Angels lost to the Dodgers this year, they actually won one but, allowed to make five outs in an inning instead of three, the Dodgers made the most of blown umpiring calls and took a game last weekend at their stadium in Echo Park. They legitimately won a game in Anaheim this weekend. But the Angels prevailed on Saturday and Sunday for their sixth consecutive series win.
Russel Branyan hit a monster 2-run homer to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 7th inning. It was his first homer as an Angel. Scott Downs tossed one pitch to finish the 8th and Jordan Walden pitched a 1-2-3 9th for his 19th save. The Angels will wake up at home on the 4th of July three games above .500 and tied for first place.

Branyan because he didn't suck tonight
Santana was close to brilliant tonight. He just needs to learn to throw to first base
I'm an Angels fan
It's really hard not to vote for a guy who went 7 2/3 with 8Ks and 1 ER
But somehow I voted for Branyan anyway
It's the first time we have had a reason to vote for Branyan.
Not giving up yet... but man this season stinks right now (6/9/11)
Branyan for panther.
No question.

Yep. Had to eat my words.
When they announced the lineup at the game, I asked Mrs. red floyd, “Is Scioscia insane?”
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
Love that Baby Buddha look Ervin has as he releases the pitch.

The dramatic interference call at the plate was good too, especially as the ESPN
commentators were getting it wrong.
"It's our money," owner Arte Moreno said.
Yeah, they must have had their hands over their eyes
during the replays from the front.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
having been burned by one before
i think most angels fans know all about interference calls at the plate.

I texted Cupie...I knew that he was at the game. Asked him what he was wearing and he said "polo shirt, white". Either this is him on national TV or he's messing with me.

Whatever, dude.
He was on during the 7th inning stretch/God Bless America. Had a good 3-4 seconds of screentime.
Whatever, dude.

Who woulda thunk it
Hopefully he doesn’t become another McAnulty in hitting a homerun and getting himself two more weeks of playing time.
Either way, I’ll take it and I’m glad we got to use the 60’s unis against the Doyers again (instead of those 90’s jerseys like others had said they would be using)

I thought the Landgrabbers were going to be wearing Brooklyn unis.
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
Couldn't pay for the retro unis?

Officially , they want to save those for their home games...
In REALITY they probably didn’t want to be seen on national television wearing Brooklyn uniforms, while the Angels were wearing LA uniforms, especially considering the Dodgers logo was stolen from the PCL Angels to begin with ( just a different font.)
not sure
but that hat is hideous. the halo just looks godawful.

have to go with Santana
not cuz i advovacte releasing Branyan (who I’m thrilled he came through tonight), but when the SP give up one run, you just HAVE to honor him with the Panther.
First place within minutes tied to a win over the Dodgers – one of the best nights of the season.

6-3 still top 0f 9th
And the halo shines tonight
Went and saw Trout tonight. Extremely bittersweet.
He got on 3 times. Really showed off his speed and really impressed me. Richards pitched awesome but they blew a 6-0 lead and lost in extras. Trout had a chance to put us on top but struck out. Thank God the Angels won.

I love how he/she tries to take a mature approach towards disuading those who would actually post pictures of dinosaur soft porn.
What next, an old English chap at Doyer stadium bleachers asking fans “I beseech thee, dost not shanketh others. Prithee!”
So of course this post makes me go read LSB...
I must say, it made me laugh. I suppose when your team is sucking air (don’t we know how it felt), any distraction is a good distraction.
Funny part is…if you want to read LSB but don’t want to feel as dirty typing it into your browser…check out dinopenis.com. I can’t believe someone registered it and forwarded it. Niiiiiice.
Everytime I read "Dino Penis" out loud
it just reminds me of Dino Ebel…….

Good to see the Angels keep up the winning ways at home
this could be a terrific homestand heading into the break.
Let’s get to 50
1st place is great - but
We get Detroit for 3 and they play Baltimore. I lived in Baltimore a couple of years back inthe 70’s – those people get real cranky when you call them Balti-morons. Can’t imagine why.
Wow, just checked standings and yep, 1st place again...
…on the back of 3 hits! :O
Now the question is, if the Angels get offerred something nice for Babbeh, Weav, etc. do you think there is any chance they will be sellers?
Being in the mix right now, I’d normally think Hell No. But I don’t know…
I know anything can happen in the playoffs, but I’d consider being sellers for the future and still rolling the dice and hope you can sneak into the playoffs.
there is no way they are sellers
ten game losing streak will not make them sellers.
by Rev Halofan on Jul 3, 2011 9:47 PM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
Yeah I figured as much...
…it’s true Arte has never been a seller but the team has been on quite a roll (minus a couple years now) so no need to be sellers.
I guess with Weav, we’ll not resign him (deadhorse) but hopefully make the playoffs this year and see what happens – then get two picks when we lose him.
Not sure who else we have anyway that would be really attractive (financially + performance) to other teams besides Abreu – and that they would consider moving.
I think Weav is probably the MOST untouchable player on the roster.
Regardless of whether or not they’ll be able to keep him, ( they DO get two first round picks if he goes, right?) he ain’t going anywhere. I would shit in my own hat if they traded him for anybody.
I wonder...
…if I had season tix, how I’d view a team that became sellers.
Does it piss you off that you know they won’t do everything they can to win each year, or do you roll with it because you love the team win or lose and don’t mind them conceeding and planning for the future.
It’s just not been logistically worth it for us to get season tix. Damn 5 freeway :/
If you're a real fan
You gauge the moves for what they are. If they’re sellers, are they building for the future? Sure, they may suck the rest of this season, but next year should be better since they picked up some good young players.
Fans of KC, Pitt, Balt, etc. have to be disillusion by this point because being sellers doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be good in a year or three. It just means you’re moving deck chairs on the Titanic. But for some teams, selling current assets for future assets is the right move. And good fans should recognize that.

Angels season ticket holders....
I’ve sat alongside a lot these guys over the years and I have become firmly convinced that the average Angels season seat holder wouldn’t give up their season seats for any reason other than not being able to afford them. It actually amazes me how many of these folks represent the most diehard fans of this team there are. These people tend to bleed Angel Red.
Wow, i did not know that ...
deep down inside, well just inside period, everybody around the world is an Angels fan. Who da thunk?

Angels are interleague beasties. I complain about the Rangers getting to play the AAA club in Houston, but the Angels feast on it better than anyone.
What a rollercoaster of a season so far. It’s only July 4th!

it is hugely entertaining to read the posts over at lonestarball right now…they sound like….US a few weeks ago.
Am I a bad person for going over there and laughing my ass off?
On a side note, apparently the stRangers aren’t too happy with the umpires either.
Apparently the Chief Cokehead called out Angel Hernandez by name!
