Reynolds to Angels in possible August Waiver Claim?

If the Orioles think that Josh Bell (3B) is ready, they'll put Mark Reynolds on waivers.Hopefully Reynolds passes through waivers until he gets to the Angels where Reagins could work out a deal with the Orioles GM (Andy MacPhail). They could send over Kohn (or any reliever, I'm just putting out a name) and Amarista for Reynolds. The teams that ~might~ make a claim on him would be the Blue Jays and A's. So that would be the only threat.

Bell is currently hitting .254 with 16 homers and 100 strikeouts and 29 walks. I can't get the dWAR for Bell on baseball-refrence.
Reynolds is currently hitting .222 with 23 homers and 116 strikeouts and 58 walks. Has a dWAR of -1.8 this year.

I'm not MacPhail so I'm not sure which one they'd have, but to me I'd rather have Bell for the better average and less strikeouts. They've roughly had the same # of AB's so a small sample size problem isn't there.

Also, I'd like to mention to any saber guys on this site, don't nag about me using Batting average and homeruns to constitute how well the player has done.

So tell me, do you think this could happen? Is this a fair return for Reynolds?

This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

Also willing to sacrifice

Reynolds’ defense and strikeouts (though it has declined since last year)

also forgot to mention that Reynolds has a higher OPS than Callaspo, and he does have more 2B (yes, only by two but Callaspo hit 40 in his career year)

I've seen that post

they can nag all they want and I can easily back my stats up if someone doesn’t like the use of BA or HR, which personally I don’t like using (or seeing) either.

Then you should edit your post

to include that information. We can usually appreciate a good solid effort from the author but don’t sandbag us by not including it in the first draft only to say I can add it in later.

I’ll be here more often, so that info helps.

I’d like to ask a question, if someone could answer it: Are there any “saber” guys on here? If so, are there a lot or are there little? Just wondering.

SubOp and Turks Teeth are the two that come to the forefront. I’m sure there are others too

No way

Thundercats was about cat people who lived in an alternate universe and fought an evil mummy. Saber Dudes whould take place in our dimension. It would revolve around three surfer dudes with an in your face attitude who are transformed into saber tooth tiger men by the toxic waste in our polluted oceans and fjords. So kids get a lesson about the environment, AND paleontology. It’s Captain Planet meets Ninja Turtles meets Heathcliff.

Oh, and they wouldn’t fight a mummy, they would fight an evil scorpion man who controls an offshore oil rig and has an army of Drill Bots at his disposal.

They should make it a theatrical release

Smurfs, Avatar. Blue People are in right now. I think Henry Rollins should play Captain Planet

how would the saber toothed tigers come in to play?

fossils buried in the sea floor?

would they still be able to surf in cat form?

would they speak pidgin?

these are questions that need to be answered

Hell yes they would surf.

Also, they’d turn into tigers after witnessing social injustice and getting upset, like the Hulk, except not giant and green.

so they'd surf as people before transforming

or would they also surf as tigers? I know tigers have great balance and agility, but don’t cats hate the water?

can we name them Reef, Turtle and Shaka?

No Saber Dude will ever be named Turtle.

It won’t exactly strike fear into the heart of Dr. Scorpion and his evil drill bot henchmen.

Also, since drilling is involved we could work a political angle into each episode as to indoctrinate the kids with center-right conservative fossil fuel themes.

You got to have the comic relief in there

Turtle would be the perfect name, but it has been used before.

I say Puffer would be a better name. it would also fit into the “Dude” aspect of the shows name.

by eyespy on Aug 1, 2011 1:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Turtle was a homage to North Shore

so when they want to transform back to their human form

would they possibly smoke a certain plant (herbal medication) to calm down the tiger within and bring them back?

"Also, I’d like to mention to any saber guys on this site, don’t nag about me using Batting average and homeruns to constitute how well the player has done."

1. Seriously? Batting average? What, you were to lazy to learn something new other than which stats are on your Dad’s prized 1961 Mickey Mantle baseball card?

2. Reynolds won’t make it to us on waivers. I would be surprised if the White Sox didn’t make a claim.

3. Reynolds defense at 3B is brutal. He would be a solid platoon partner for Abreu.

4. You can’t trade anybody on the 40 man roster after July 31 unless they clear waivers as well. Considering the Astros’ current roster is perhaps the worst collection of “talent” since WWII I doubt any young, cost controlled player would pass them by.

by YouthofToday on Jul 31, 2011 11:43 PM PDT reply actions

1) I made this post to fans that would understand those kind of stats, if i wanted to go in-depth i would’ve but I figured I’d keep BA up there.

2) Danny Viciedo

3) As I said I’m willing to sacrifice his defense for his OPS

4) My bad. Nice joke on the ’Stros

But are you looking for a conversation, or what?

You’re basically saying all of Reynolds’ weaknesses (strikeouts, awful defense, low average) are off-limits for discussion. But anything else is cool.

Any wonder you’re getting a cool reception here?

Callaspo is on pace...

to beat Mark Reynolds career high WAR of 3.5… He usually can’t sniff a 2 WAR. He’s garbage. I don’t care if he’s free. He’s a downgrade.
