Listening to LunchTime HaloTalk, Rev and WiHaloFan were talking about Mark Trumbo's chances to be rookie of the year, and how he would only be the 2nd Halo to receive such an honor.   (After Tim Salmon....anyone recall his selection being unanimous?)  

They both wondered aloud about anybody else getting close, and to their credit, they remembered Wally Joyner finishing a close 2nd, in '86. (He only lost by 9 percent of the vote, does anyone else remember it being that close?). 

However, Wally World was not the Halo rookie to garner national attention.   While Rev and WiHaloFan's memory banks also brought up hits for Devon White (he finished 5th in 1985), and "a pitcher" (Byran Harvey, who finished 2nd in 1988?), the team has had quite a remarkable history of noteworthy freshmen.  In fact, two Angels did so in only the team's second season (click on the jump to find out who, if you Buck (hint) to take a Chance (hint)).

Joyner was not only the Halos close call..in 1995, Garret Anderson came  within  6 points of besting the Twins' Marty Cordova...each had 13 first place votes,, and each was 3.0 WAR...yet, GA had better BA,SLG, and OPS....Somebody call the FBI ...GA waz robbed!  Over their entire careers, GA played twice as long (17 yrs vs 9), had more than 4* the cumulative WAR (27.3 vs 6.4), and is ranked more than 1000 places ahead of Cordova (according the the Fan EloRater).  GA was not not only robbed, he was beaten, and stabbed!!!
