Mark Trumbo Walkoff HR Prevents Texas Sweep of Angels
In what had become yet another "must-win" game for the Angels, Mark Trumbo hit a walk-off HR to prevent the Texas sweep of the Angels, who managed to keep everyone in "suspense" for the 2-1 victory.
Jered Weaver, making a stand to prevent the sweep, pitched 7 solid innings tonight, scattering six hits, striking out five and walking one, while holding the Texas offense to a single run. That run came in the Rangers 7th inning as Mike Napoli reminded everyone that he can still hit the solo shot in Anaheim, launching one to deep left-center field to put the Angels down 0-1. For a time, this game looked like a typical game started by Weaver as the Angels failed to support their ace pitcher.
The Halos had a few premium chances to plate some runs starting with the 5th inning. Peter Bourjos dropped a bunt single on Rangers starter Colby Lewis with one out and would advance all the way to third on an errant throwover to first base. With two chances to get P-Bo home, Erick Aybar strikes out and Jeffy Premium Mathis does what he does best which is strikeout with a runner in scoring position to end the inning. Abreu hit a two out double in the sixth inning that if it was 12 inches to the left of the RF scoreboard, it would have been a solo HR. Unfortunately, Torii Hunter would fly out in foul territory to end the inning. Moving along to the seventh, runners at first and second and Alberto Callaspo pinch hitting for Premium would pop out to short to end the inning.
Fast forward to the ninth inning and Bobby Cassevah is back on the mound and got Napoli to strike out, gave up a single to David Murphy and Yorvit Torrialba to pop up for the second out. Horacio Ramirez is called in and gets Endy Chavez to strikeout on five pitches however the Halos are still down 0-1 going to the bottom of the ninth. Facing Mike Adams and his 1.12 ERA, Hunter singled to center and Trumbo crushes one down the left field line for the game-winning two-run HR celebration.
37 games remain for the Angels and are now 6 GB with 6 games left against Texas head-to-head.

Rangers kicke Angels Ass
Rangers and Napoli kicked Angels Ass. Pathetic you act as if you won the series, in fact what you did only was to prevent the inevitable for one more night. The Rangers have to play .500 ball while the Angels have to play at least .650. Good Luck. It’s a lost season you might not be able to see it through all of the crap Scioscia hands out.

Wait, "you won", "you did", etc.?
Why’re you separating yourself from the fanbase/team? I agree it’ll be hard and nigh impossible to catch the Rangers, barring an epic collapse/heating up, but I’d expect a more of “we would need to do _”.

It’s a shame the team shat the bed the previous 8 games. I would be way more excited about this if this had been the difference between being 2 and 4 games back rather than the difference between being 6 and 8 games back.

did anyone else notice Naps mouth “F$ck you” to Weaver when the inning ended? Go back and check it out. My DVR crapped out, but I’m sure I read Bluto mouthing those bad words.

Every team has at least one douche.
I’m just happy that the douche on my team happens to be a douche with a sub-2.00 ERA.
I noticed that too.
For a split second I was wondering if WTY doubted his so called bromance with Premium.

by AngelsFan87 on Aug 19, 2011 12:16 AM PDT up reply actions
Napoli certainly took a moment to admire his handiwork...
…and in Weaver’s world that’s as if he was eyeing up Mrs Weaver (senior) – and we all know, with Naps, how that’s going to turn out.
When someone hits one out of WTY, it’s as if time changes down a gear for him and the timescale for the batter between seeing where the ball went and internally masturbating / grandstanding over his own awesome power, becomes incredibly compressed, leading to the minor (or occasionally major) meltdown.
If Weaver could somehow harness that compressive temporal effect and rush us to 1. The end of the Mathis era, 2. The end of the Reagins era and 3. The end of this depressing season, that would probably be helpful
I see red people
I voted POTG Trumbo.
But if DOV called the winning shot, i’m thinking he needs some props. Just glad we didn’t get swept. And I still blame Mathis, and the Snuggies for all of our misfortunes.

Yeah, at 9:41 DOV did make the comment that a 2 run homer wins the game.
But here, at 9:47, smithy610 goes bold enough to actually predict the TRUMBO homer in the 9th.
Both of those comments were while Texas was still at bat. I gotta think about going with smithy610 for the finer detail of his prognosticative cajones.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and the Cat?
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
Was actually delighted to see you had done the work.
I was scrambling to put something together since I didn’t see anybody hanging around, and I had nothing. I had an empty shell waiting to figure out which way to go, and had made a couple of false starts assuming a loss but couldn’t get any mental momentum built up. My heart wasn’t in it.
Then we won, and I started to rebuild everything and it still wasn’t coming together either, so I bounced out hoping to see that Rev had done it and I could shut down my burgeoning fail. Instead I saw that you did it, and said a little huzzah and trashed my lame lack of progress.
So, no, just the opposite of pissed.
But since I was spending way too much time worrying about all that, I missed out on the game thread. I was wondering what the DOV love was all about. I went back and read through it and tripped over the smithy610 comment, so I gave him some cred (you will note that this was in the thread, NOT an edit job).
Your jab was just too obscure. It read more like a measure between smithy610 and DOV, and leveled at tic-tac-toe. And besides, the Japanese do quite well in business by not worrying about who moves first.
Besides, a couple of bowls full of fresh cherries work wonders.

Fair enough
FWIW, the who is doing writeup duty came about through a series of text messages with Rev earlier today. An email should have went out stating I was doing postgame duty for the evening.
Glad to see though there was backup on hand just in case.
Go team.

Thanks for the shoutout, Stirrups
No big deal for me since the Angels won the game. I was just excited to see Trumbo batting in the 9th that I didn’t even think someone had to get on base for the Angels to get a walkoff win. When I saw Torii and that he was on the verge of breaking his hitting streak, I honestly didn’t think he would get on base. I was basing my hopes off on Trumbo hitting a HR to just tie the game.
And I thought Trumbo was on the verge of something special. Last night in almost the same situation, he got on base to be the tying run. His imbecile teammates just couldn’t get him home. Earlier in the game, he was just a couple of inches short on a HR. I was thinking Trumbo is due for something.
Go Angels!!!
Hey guys, two words:
RE LAX.

*sigh*
It was a joke. Remember that one time someone wrote a totally idiotic FanPost, RE. LAX.? May have even been the same one as Riding Off the season, blah blah. No? Hrumph. Nevermind, then. I’ll go enjoy the “only Cath still thinks they’re funny” HH memes by myself. Sniffsniff.

She probably thought you wanted a bit of the old in-and-out.

If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
I'd just like to say that the past 2 times I've gone to my girlfriends house
Trumbo has hit a walk off trumbomb. Maybe I should stop inviting her over to my place?
Baseball is a funny game...
weird...
the past 8 times I’ve gone to your girlfriends house, Walden has blown a save.

Angels are excellent underdogs...
and like I said earlier….tejas has one helluva schedule over the next month…whereas we have a lot of good schedule match-ups against tejas…Boston comes to mind…
Trap series are sept 2-4 Minn. @ home and sept.16-22 Bal, Tor…on the road.
We need to ride this for a sweep of Bal and White sox because that is when they play Boston.

I was sleeping through most of this game.
Woke up in the ninth inning. Saw the single by Hunter, and then the bomb by Trumbo.
It was exciting, but you’d think it would be more heart pounding excitement. It just felt like covering a gaping wound with a band-aid, it’s only going to last so long. I’ve already come to terms with the outcome of the season, because, yes, I’m a pessimistic bitch.
I've got nothing.
Yeah, the overall feeling for the season isn’t there. This wasn’t Game 6 in 2002. But we won in an exciting fashion and nobody broke an ankle. I was just glad to see Texas lose on our field in this series.

Oddly
In the dream that I just awoke from, Texas got to bat again, Napoli hit a walk-off homer, and there was a major brawl before he could finish clearing the bases.

You can read about Rangers
here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Ranger_Division
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
I watched it on the MLB network at, like, 1am?
I don’t know which feed they had but I think it was the Rangers (lamest nickname in BB BTW. What the hell is a Ranger? Someone who ranges? Who does that?) They were talking about how the Rangers bullpen had the lowest ERA in baseball; something like 1.12.
Then they gave up a 2-run homer with no outs. I slept well.

MLB Network's "live look-ins"
have featured several Trumbombs; it’s a little ooky. I almost turned on the tv when I got home around 12, but I thought they’d never show our game.
It's like we're on a different planet

They even showed half of a trumbomb once.
We got the pitch, the swing … and then the feed cuts out and I scramble wildly to check Gameday to see if what I thought happened had happened.
If I controlled Live Look-Ins, I’d show Trumbo ABs for sure, so I don’t know how spooky/ooky it is though. :-)
