John Lackey doesn't think anyone likes to pitch in Arlington
Lackey admits pitching in the Arlington heat is an issue.
He also makes an offense comment that smells a little like a jab at the Angels expense.
This is the quote:
"I like hot, but I don't think anybody likes to pitch here, honestly," Lackey said. "This place is pretty tough, for a lot of reasons. The ballpark, they've always had a good lineup here. But with the offense we're bringing in with us, you feel a little more confident than I have a few times in the past."

Typical horse-toothed jackass!
Or is it horse-faced jackass?
Either way, he’s a jackass!
My response to your letter of February 19, 1976, is - kiss my ass.
Sincerely,
Bill Baxley, Attorney General

Jackass was the first thing I said when I read this.
Really makes me appreciate Weaver all the more.
I meant the OTHER Howard!

OK, that's weird
The link leads back to the Angel recap. Click on the score of the Red Sox game, then click the link to the Red Sox recap of that game. The Lackey quote is in that recap.

I watched that game
A pitcher who will pitch as ineffectively as Lackey did will require a tremendous offense behind him I am aware of the personal problems in his life at the moment, but some players bloom under such circumstances, finding solace in a game they’ve loved as a child.
In any case, Lackey is a shell of the pitcher who wore an Angels uniform in 2005-2008. I remember a lot of squawking here about a perceived necessity to re-sign Lackey, but the Angels’ front office correctly evaluated Lackey and didn’t make a panic bid. The Red Sox have been paying ace money to a pitcher who is no better than a #4 starter.
All of this further underscores the character and value of Jered Weaver.

Every time I'm ready to let things go with this guy
And just appreciate him for what he did as an Angel, he takes another shot at the Angels. No one else does this. I have lost all respect for Lackey and have almost no good feelings for him.

I no longer wear the jacket he signed for me unless it's raining outside
It went from one of my favorite articles of clothing (it also has Napoli and Washburn signatures) to the rain jacket.
It's kinda sad.
A dig like that would’ve burned like fire 6 months ago. I watched that game and all I can do is shake my head at Lack. He’s quite brave to actually do interviews, especially where he’s taking shots at the Angels. He honestly can’t pitch anymore and that’s too bad. Yeah, I’m a good pitcher as long as I’ve gotta real offense that scores 11 runs. Yeah, cuz that team you took to TX your last year couldn’t score for shit…i wish him nothing but the worst. Nothing but.

Keep reading. I thought this quote was..........descriptive.
Caught up in the moment, Lackey pumped his fist as the play was completed.
“I’m trying to win, man,” Lackey said. “[Heck] yeah, I get fired up about anything.”

Must be nice to have an ERA hovering at 6.00 and not have to throw current teammates under the bus
I will laugh heartily if/when Boston leaves this asshat off of their post-season roster.
The Anti-Weaver indeed…

he still does throw teammates under
With all his staring, and the facial expressions. Never changed. Gave Scuttaro some glares just recently.
I don't see where he's making a comment towards or referring to the Halos.

Who else has he been to Arlington with?
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
So this is the first time he pitches in Arlington with BOS?

Yep. Could have been a jab at his past (us) or it could have been nothing.
He could have just said
But with the offense we’re bringing in with us, you feel a little more confident
But he just had to add
than I have a few times in the past

Sorry - I think I have the link corrected
It’s the bosux 8/23 game recap.
As George Kaplan discovered, the bosux mlb recap link went to the Angels recap.
I copied it in last night, and like a newbie, didn’t test it.

Well, to be honest, we agree with him.
Our offense does suck and this place is overwhelmed with the same commentary Lackey just handed back to us. One fun week doesn’t change that.
And we were saying a lot of that same thing about the offense behind Lackey during his walk year, which was his final perspective on us. Just as there were thoughts about the offense influencing Weaver’s future decision this year.
Against stupidity the very Gods themselves toil in vain.
Our offense was good his walk year.
We led the AL in BA and Hits, and SB. We were up there in runs scored and I believe like 2nd in OPS. Even so, he’s more than a year removed, bringing us up to make giving up runs seem ok is a bit much.

I don't get Lackey.
He swears he’s never won a championship with us. He’s got a big mouth and deserves what he gets. I hope we win at least one championship with Weaver. He would appreciate it.
ugh
I clicked on the link at the top and now I’ve got the red sux website in my browser history

In 18 career games at TEX, Lackey's ERA is 6.68
and yet he is 7-6… How much more does he want from the offense?
by WhatShouldIThrowToday? on Aug 24, 2011 1:22 PM PDT reply actions
He's probably still bitter
about not getting enough run support during his first career start when he got the call up in 2002 at Texas.
