BTW, i was in NYC over 9/11 weekend

it was awesome
Every bar had the week 1 Jets game on, so I had to convince a couple of street hockey dudes to let me turn the TV to the Angels game. We bought drinks for each other. I like NYC.
It can be a great, great town.
Were the street hockey dudes (???) Yankee fans?

I've heard mongerings about moving Astros over with pending sale of the team
But no way it happens next year
Have to pull back next year's schedules
and make new ones with 15 teams per league
When they expand the play off format to 10 teams
they will realign the Leagues to 15 teams each. The Astros to the AL West, and an extra 2 Wild Card teams. Because of today it will happen in 2012, and not later.
hells yeah!!!

Lackey's going to catch even more hell than he already was
You could argue that continuing to pitch him and that putrid 6+ ERA in September basically cost them the playoffs, and divorcing the wife with cancer doesn’t help his image much either considering how he was mining that for sympathy earlier in the year.

The four letter network are playing the highlights of both games
and they’re flipping back and forth between the games. It’s actually pretty cool now that it’s not the Red Sox game. These announcers sound more neutral than the ones we get from these guys, and they’re really enthusiastic about the winners of both games.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
if madden can coach a 40m$ team, what does that say about sosh?
conger > mathis
Maybe they can write a book and produce a movie on it

Should I post this on OTM, just to get banned on sight?

Black line is overall chance of making the playoffs
Blue line is chance of a division title, red line is chance of wild card berth.

Not like their game affected any races. Terry Collins getting all broken up about it in the press conference was more embarrassing, to me anyway.

He did pretty well for himself this year
held together a team that had yet another injury-fall-apart year. They were making a run at the wild card for a fair bit of time without some of their best players…something not expected of them WITH their best players. Mets fans can’t feel too bad about the year.

I don't have a problem with it.
The Mets have been long out of contention. Reyes had busted his ass for as many games as he could play in. He can’t basque in the teams success so why not feel good about something. If he wants the batting title that bad and has worked hard for him. So be it. He worked hard the entire year. Who are we to judge.

I'm a biased Mets fan
(though most Mets fans are against it).
And I say it’s a non-story. He took hundreds of at-bats to put himself in that position. You can’t bemoan him making sure he got what he worked all season for by leaving a meaningless game.
Reading an article on ESPN talking about how this is proof that Jeter is better than Reyes made me sick. Saying “Jeter would never do this” is the easiest thing in the world to say for someone who knows he’ll never have to back up the words.

Can't remember the list offhand, but does the Chowd collapse knock us in 1995 off the top of the September choke list?
by BigKahunaMan on Sep 28, 2011 10:01 PM PDT up reply actions
For sure
our lead was bigger, but a big chunk of it was lost in August. We were only ever as much as 6.5 up in September.

An interesting "footnote" of sorts to our '95 collapse
is that we were actually 3 games back with 5 games to go in the season…that’s how hard we collapsed. But we managed to force a one game playoff, anyway.

As for a September collapse, yes
According to Cool Standings, the Red Sox had a 99.6% POFF on September 3, the highest POFF blown in September. The two teams above that in collapses, the 1995 Angels and 1951 Dodgers had higher POFFs, but in August.
Going through OTM threads and seeing the utter desperation is a nice balm for disappointment

The Angels had a hand in all this
- The pitcher who got the save in the Atlanta loss was none other than our own David Herndon
- Alex Torres pitched very well for the Rays over the past month
- Sean Rodriguez made important contributions through the Rays season
