Kerry Wood?
Apparently he's not heading back to the Cubs and he fits DiPoto's vision of complementing Walden rather than replacing him. .
Wood has experience as a closer but is happy being a setup guy. Here are his stats :

Jeff, you might want to fix that bottom part
Here are his stats: Wood has experience as a closer but is happy being a setup guy

I like the idea of a mentor
Percy had Lee Smith. Frankie had Percy.
Walden has had…Fraudney? Fuentes? One of the random, remaining Rodriguezes that we seemed to be growing hydroponically for awhile?
I like the idea of bringing Wood in for a lucrative 1+ option to tutor Walden in being a closer. It could wind up being an investment with huge dividends.

Not to mention
the Texas connection between the two. Both hard throwing right handers with similar stuff in their heyday.

I like that angle
I was thinking more along the lines of Walden insurance than Walden mentor, but it works.

Where were you on December 8th, 2011 - Pujols Day?

i did not know brandon had a shitty pitching brother
AAAA greatness runs in the family
Nothing says Sundays like the thump of an Andy Lee punt followed by the frantic backpedaling of a return man.

I'd rather have KRod than Wood
"When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered that I had adsorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No, I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby."
He has a higher salary and bad attitude
I’m not 100% sold on Wood, but I would rather give Cassevah a legitimate shot than bring back KRod and his huge salary.
Thought KRod was a free agent?

He accepted arbitration with the Brewers
He will make somewhere in the neighborhood of $13 million next year. I’m sure Milwaukee would gladly trade him away if they could find a taker.
Ew...don't want that. If he was a free agent, different perspective. Thanks for clarifying

Yeah, I think it would only work as a "Bad Contract Swap"
If we give them Abreu (freeing up a DH/CornerOF/bench spot) and get KRod in the bullpen for a net 4mil, then it could work.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned him yet
solid peripherals and acoording to this link, he’s asking for around $4m. IMO, Wood is the type of guy that strengthens the bullpen without the Madson-like, exorbitant cost. JeDi should target these types.

DiPo is an NL guy
I would be shocked if Kerry Wood wasn’t squarely on his radar.
I’d offer him the ability to earn a base of $4M with reasonable incentives that can earn him $5M (the same AAV as Downs), and with an option for 2013. I’d get that deal done, then I would consider my bullpen to be substantially strengthened, with some more experience added to the mix.

Now that Madson's off the table, I'm calling a Wood signing in the next two weeks.

I didn't expect this community to be pro-Wood
Pro-boner, sure, but not pro-Wood.

Who didn't love Boner?
We’re talking about Mike Seaver’s best friend, right? I didn’t know he became a relief pitcher.

Boner Stabone.
And don’t forget his father (who never appeared on camera) Sylvester.

I got a cousin who's an attorney in the adult film industry
He does pro-boner work all the time. He doesn’t seem to think it’s funny. Go figure.

Some of his clients probably got a stiff sentence, eh?
