I love this. As someone who doesn't hate the Dodgers as much as others on this blog does, I love the rivalry possibilities that this could bring. I also love that it would prevent him from going to the Rangers and it would force their hands to either overpay Darvish or admit to having a pretty terrible off season.

I know its farfetched, but I think I can dream

Sad part is

had McBroke actually sold the team earlier instead of dragging things out, Fielder to the Doyers would have been a scary real possibility.

Hate is a matter of relevancy

Why would I hate the Dodgers, when have they kept the Angels out of the playoffs? When have the Dodgers won a World Series Ring? Dodgers are nothing to me. I’m too busy hating on the Red Sox (which is waning), Yankees, and most importantly the Rangers.

I never liked the Dodgers as a kid because of Vin Scully's voice on the TV broadcasts

I can appreciate him now, but when you’re a kid, he his the most boring monotone person to listen to ever.

Then I must be a kid at heart.

Because I still have a hard time listening to Vin. He is easily (in my opinion) one of the hardest announcers to listen to. He just drones on and on, pointing out things that have very little to do with what’s on the field, and constantly pimping Farmer John’s Doyer Dogs. I always expect him during a telecast to say “Bueller..Bueller..Bueller…”

Hated Shaq with a passion when I was growing up

Loved Robinson because he was everything Shaq wasn’t, smart, polite, multidimensional (Shaq in his 18 years could never develop a skill set that involved him facing the basket, Robinson has a great post up and a great facing the basket game) and most importantly articulate. Listening to Shaq was like listening to the posters on here whose first post is a Fanpost with 15 subjects and no thesis. Duncan echoed those skills and attitude, and Manu was just Manu.

by blast21dave on Jan 11, 2012 11:08 AM PST up reply actions

I agree with Mayhem....

The team I would least like to see win the Series at this point is the Dodgers…The Red Sox would have to be second and The Rangers third.

My thinking is this: even though I technically hate the Red Sox and their fans more than the Dodgers and their fans, a Dodgers World Series Championship would be more painful to me personally (and I assume most of us as Angels fans) just because they haven’t won it for so long and because they are a natural geographical rival. Imagine how much more pompous and intolerable that sea of blue would become when we visit Dodger Stadium and how much more difficult it would be to deal with the Doyer fans during our annual get-together at Angels Stadium. They would be in our face and insufferable.

In contrast, because the Red Sox have won it recently and have also been beaten by us in a playoff series recently the effect of another title for them would not be so great as if the Dodgers somehow won it. The Dodgers winning the Series against us would be my worst nightmare.

Word.

Seriously, fuck the Doyers (my F bomb for January). I never root for any other AL West team. Ever. And like you, I will pull for the underdog. Unless of course that underdog is from the AL West, skanks, bosux. Or the Doyers.

that was a tough one for me, i mean rooting for Giants or Cards was obvious, and rooting for Tampa Bay over Texas in the DS last year was easy, buy the Texas v Yankees ALCS two years ago was tough….. also the Texas v Detroit last year. I went for detroit but rooted against verlander

Learn Your History!!!!

If you know ANYTHING about the Angels birth as the ORIGINAL NATIVE CALIFORNIA BASEBALL TEAM and the Brooklyn Landgrabers cozy dealings to prevent them from competing for market share, banishing them to the OC Orange groves, keeping them poor and unable to attract and keep top talent. Then have even an inkling of how stuck up and pricky their fans get when they win (Think that fat kid who stole Pee Wee Herman’s bike, or a barely understandable extra from American Me who got all the questions on Wheel of Fortune right and wants to tell you about it from 1988 to 2001) there’s just no way you can enjoy both teams.

It’s like saying you love running track AND having Tuberculosis. You may want to be chill with those who go for dah Doyers, but they still think you root for a second class team.

Oh I know my history....

My history is that the Angels and Dodgers as of yet have not played a World series against each other.

Sure they were the Los Angeles Angels before the Dodgers came to Los Angeles and they deserve a right to the market but at the same time, had teams like the Dodgers or Giants not come to the west coast would teams like the Angels have made it into the majors or would the Major Leagues still have been an east coast club and the Angels would still be in a glorified AAAA league like the old PCL?

I find most of the rivalry between the two teams to be entirely frivolous and I choose not to participate in it. Granted I haven’t had to deal with Dodgers fan being jerks to me (and I am not a jerk to my friends who are Dodgers fans), and maybe if I had I would have a different feeling. Also I have never really lived in an era when the Dodgers were winners (born in 1989), but in my mind I find the rivalry to be entirely contrived by fans.

When I flip a coin I dont say heads or tails, I say Halos or Spurs

by ItCouldHappen on Jan 12, 2012 12:48 AM PST up reply actions

You're right.

They never would have put baseball teams in the major west coast cities without the Doyers moving west and we should all hope the teams we hate will make it into the World Series if it will make for a good World Series. Usually, when I dislike something, I don’t wish it most of the success in the world.

Tim Salmon + Yankee cap = HOF.

by gitchogritchoffmypetis on Jan 12, 2012 4:15 PM PST up reply actions

Im not arguing that you should wish them success.

But don’t you ever enjoy baseball for baseball’s sake? I wasn’t suggesting rooting for the dodgers, but wouldn’t a freeway series be pretty cool? Wouldn’t it be nice to beat the dodgers and to be in the LA area during a world series like that?

And would the Angels have become a major league team without the Dodgers moving to LA? Its actually an interesting question. Here’s the wiki article which I revisited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Los_Angeles_Angels_of_Anaheim

Based on this it seems that O’Malley, owner of the PCL Angels and the Dodgers, was the architect of the two teams sharing the market in LA (in addition to the AL and NL fearing a third league). So who knows what would happen if Dodger owner O’Malley had bought the Hollywood stars instead of the Angels? Or if an AL team had come out west instead of NL teams?

I’m not trying to say we are in debt to the Dodgers, I’m just suggesting that the two franchises are fairly intertwined in the origins of ML baseball in Los Angeles.

However I have had generally positive experiences with Dodger fans so I can only see my perspective and I’m sure that it is younger and smaller than your perspective so I reserve judgement.

When I flip a coin I dont say heads or tails, I say Halos or Spurs

by ItCouldHappen on Jan 12, 2012 5:11 PM PST up reply actions

Hmmm. I'm not sure.

But I think you think O’Malley had more to do with the Angels being created than he did. Like I am saying, not sure, but if I remember right it was all Autry and the only thing O’malley had to do with it was moving the PCL Angels elsewhere and getting a pile of money from Autry for the name.

I know for a fact O’ Malley didn’t appreciate the competition for butts in seats.

I love this team, I love this blog, I will never doubt Arte again and I can't wait to see what happens this year. That is all.

by gitchogritchoffmypetis on Jan 13, 2012 3:13 PM PST up reply actions

I'm a pretty young dude so my memory comes from google

And I think you’re right that Autry was critical in taking the angels to the next step. But clearly O’Malley was a dude who knew the potential of MLs in LA and so he approached it on two sides, buying a local PCL team and buying the rights to an ML team in the market and then finally buying the Dodgers, bringing them to LA and then selling the Angels to Autry

However, before buying the Angels, Autry was a part owner of the Hollywood Stars and apparently decided to jump ship because it was clear that the Angels were gonna be the ML team not the Stars.

At this point the Angels were admitted into the AL through Autry’s efforts, and due to an agreement in their sales they played their first season or two in Chavez Ravine before completing their own stadium.

So again I have to wonder had O’Malley bought the Stars instead of the Angels would they have been the team that made it to the AL?

This is not to take anything away from Autry or the joy he gave us by ensuring the angels got into the AL almost single handily. But it is interesting how the two teams came to be in the southland and the connections between the two.

Again Im a young dude so I am going off of some research and not experience so I might be completely wrong
