REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME THE ANGELS HAD A FIRST BASEMAN WHO PLAYED THE GUITAR?

Spiezio will always be in my heart
but Sandfrog made me misanthropic.
I liked them better, later, when they were called:
Mouse Rat
Muscle Confusion
Ninja Dick
A.D. and the D Bags
Fourskin
Scarecrow Boat
and Just The Tip
Mark Trumbo on rock and roll:
“I like it all, man. I get my inspiration from the past and the present of rock. I mean, the classic stuff, like Avenged Sevenfold or Evanesence to the today’s torchbearers like Rise Against. I also dig obscure, experimental stuff like Thrice and Korn, bro.”

"Oh yeah dude"
“I also listen to this one underground extreme metal band you’ve probably never heard of. It’s called ‘Slayer’.”

It's a shame they're breaking up/going on hiatus after this next tour.

Very much so.
But eventually I imagine it gets hard with families at home.

I think it’s at Mars Hill Church in OC as the Youth Pastor leader or something like that.

Geez, sounds like a high school kid
"When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered that I had adsorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No, I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby."
EIther that, or he goes the modern approach to musical nfluences:
“My stuff is a little bit Beatles, kind of Zeppelin-esque, throw a little JImi in there…I also get a little softer sometimes, with some Elton John vibes, but when we really bring it, the closest comparison would have to be the Pixies.”

I love that scene from Airheads when they are ask to define their music and Brendan Fraiser, Steve Busccemi and Adam Sandler all start listing of bands/musician/genres at full speed with no coherency whatsoever
When I flip a coin I dont say heads or tails, I say Halos or Spurs

Ha!
Good ol’ Airheads. Super underrated movie. The prison scene at the end is great.

Avenged Sevenfold....Guitar Guy's son (from Jef-fa-fa Dunhammmm)
"We are the JeDi, the ultimate power in the universe. We will do as we choose. And we will destroy any who dare stand in our way."
That guitar on the back wall looks almost like my Toronado
Might be a Jaguar or something else, though. Either way, pretty cool.

It might be a Fender Jazzmaster
The Jaguar has switches on the top left of the guitar, which I don’t see on that one. I could be wrong though. The Fender Jaguar, Jazzmaster, Mustang and Tornado all had similar body styles.

@flemo_k Baroness, Godflesh, and Isis might be a few that come to mind.
Man, he shut you guys up.
Naw. Bros like progressive metal now. They're 10-15 years behind, but better late than never.
Godflesh is classic and eventually everybody seeks out Justin Broadrick’s oeuvre. Baroness I can hang with, too, but are far down the line of my favorite stoner metal bands of today. Isis will hit every screamo/hardcore fans ears eventually, because they have the pedigree of other bands/projects, not to mention longevity. But most of this stuff is still de rigueur due to the explosion of Hot Topic style mall metal from the early 2000’s. Those kids just grew up and are finally listening to what the old guys(i.e. 35 year olds) in Kerrang are telling them to.
Basically…if he mentioned Isis and Godflesh in 1998, my mind would’ve exploded. Now, it’s just sorta what I expect.

So we're on to Jacob and Russian Circles
Instrumental music is obsolete.
by Halowitz on Jan 14, 2012 12:18 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
I know a person or two into Russian Circles. Never heard of Jakob.
I just can’t get into that stuff any more. I used to, but I would also devote more time to putting on headphones and really zoning in on shit like that. Now I just want to hear a 3 minute long song with a hook or two. “Louie Louie” on repeat always works. But I can still see the appeal of that sort of stuff.
The only “heavy” type bands I listen to that are around today are Big Business, Red Fang, Torche…stuff like that. Last hardcore record I ever bought was probably Converge’s You Fail Me. My wheelhouse was basically anything from 1993-2000, where most of my record and tshirt collection comes from. It’s sadly all in a box in storage.

Russian Circles is awesome.
But man, vocals would take them to a great next level.
Also, Big Business backing up the Melvins is such a great concept.

Damnit, I wanted to get into it with you about music.
But now this thread is dead. Following this site primarily on your phone has its drawbacks.

Well I'd already lost my train of thought as well.
Something along the lines of “everything being post- everything means that music is hardly worth following.” and “EDM is revolutionary and blah blah” junk like that.
Also, 1998
when he and I were 11.

As a guy who has played guitar a lot longer than I played SS ...
… I really appreciated this.
According to Fretbase (guitarist’s site) here are some other major leaguers who can bash on six strings as well.
And according to legend, HOF shortstop Honus Wagner was really handy with his guitar on road trips.
The best of all time was probably Bernie Williams, I’ve heard his album and he was/is damn good on the guitar.
Don't call me Bugs. Although Bugs Bunny could do it all on the baseball field.

Somebody get Mark the Germs album, Pat Smear on guitar crushes all that overproduced 21st-century “goatee-metal” out there.

I started playing guitar in the 8th grade, the same year I started listening to punk rock, which was 1994. I also started reading any book or article I could find about punk.
One thing that always bugged me(and still does) is how many times I read or heard that Germs were horrible musicians. Maybe in the very, very, VERY beginning they sucked, but most of the music these writers or talking heads in documentaries were commenting on was the seminal stuff. And that band, by then, could shred.

Belinda Carlisle on drums at their first extended concert
GERMS were awesomely terrible. There was a ROIR cassette of the live show. They did a cover version of SUGAR SUGAR by the Archies. Painful to listen to.
I'm not going to seek that out, will take your word.
I found my first band’s 8 track demo tape the other day. Had my buddy get it from cassette onto the computer. I remember it being good, but it sounds painful now. 15 year old Mayhem didn’t know any better.

I used to drink whiskey and beer with Lorna at the Masque before their show
this would be like 10:30 p.m. or so and we were already getting hammered and they were going on at 1:00 a.m. ! Yep, Pat would go into an impromptu slide guitar with either a beer bottle or beer can.
CONGER, CONGER, CONGER !!!
