And U-Haul wanted to stay in Anaheim.
When he’s signed, I’ll believe it.
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
You beat me to it
Boras clients are always circumspect in speaking about the team they’re leaving and the team with which they’re negotiating.
OF COURSE he wants to be a Ranger, assuming Ryan wants to write an 8 year deal.

Fielder also wants to be in Washington, or Los Angeles (Dodgers), or wherever the biggest contract is....
"When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered that I had adsorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No, I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby."
The Rangers will sign Darvich
The choice is do they commit long term money to Hamilton or Fielder.
My decision would be to make the commitment to Fielder.

That's where the story is
Hamilton supposedly wants 6 years. He’s a complete fan favorite, practically an analog to Tim Salmon, but his body is fragile and he’s seen as a risk for that reason. There is also the constant risk of relapse for him.
Fielder is in his prime, but he’s an outsider and not particularly cuddly. His body type also makes GM give pause when it comes to long-term deals, even though Prince is still a young man. There is also the constant risk that he discovers meat.
Assuming Darvish is signed, does Texas go all-in with Fielder and thus say goodbye to Hamilton (and/or Cruz), and what would the fans think in that instance? I would think Hamilton would be the sort of guy Ryan would prioritize keeping a Ranger for the rest of his career, but one never knows.

Apparently PETA hasn't gotten the memo from Prince
They’re still featuring him in their articles about vegetarian athletes.

SN: Are you still a vegetarian?
FIELDER: Nope. No more ofthat anymore. It was OK, but as far as the schedule and all that and trying to eat like that, that’s a lot of work and something you have to map out. I still eat good, though.

That might explain some of the reservations GMs seem to have
Obviously, the kid can hit it a country mile, but imagine the wear and tear on his leg joints—the knee and ankle, especially—if he begins to gain even more weight taking in red meat protein along with all the other stuff he was eating before.

I wish they'd shill for a better animal rights activist group
PETA is a bunch of disingenuous asshats with too-close ties to ALF and a penchant for picking fights with stupid groups for stupid reasons.
They have a decent enough basic message, but like any other group spend too much time on shit that just doesn’t matter…
…like getting pissed off that Mario Bros. features one outfit that is an animal suit.

Regardless, one or more of their core players leaving may be inevitable.
Between Hamilton, Cruz, Napoli, Kinsler, and some of their rising young pitchers, you can’t keep them all. Every organization has these cycles: you build a successful core group of players, those core players need to get paid, and then you have to decide which to keep and which to replace with younger cost-efficient players. Usually it’s about a five year cycle.
We’ve recently been on the back end of that cycle. We had a core group of players in Salmon, Anderson, Glaus, and Perci. Eventually we had to move in a different direction. That new direction included a core built around guys like Vlad, Lackey, Figgins, and K-Rod. We decided to let some of those key players go and start building a new cycle in Morales, Weaver, Howie and Aybar. It’s the way of the baseball world: you can’t win for a long period of time without making adjustments in between. Any team can get lucky with a few standout prospects and compete for 2 or 3 seasons, but the truly successful teams are the ones that find ways to compete for 6 or 7 years. No one cares that the Padres had a miracle season in 2010, but people most certainly cared when a similar team like the Rays was able to sustain that success for 4 years running.
In the next year or two, Texas is going to be facing the ominous challenge of sustaining success. There are teams like the Marlins who have been forced to compete in 3 year periods, where you would have roughly three competitive years and then roughly three rebuilding years. Money certainly makes it easier to adjust, but adjusting is the key and not every team is able to do it. We have been in the middle of two bridge seasons that happened to fall right in line with Texas’ two peak seasons.
Over the next couple seasons we’ll see just how good Texas is. Everyone is praising Jon Daniels right now, and everyone seems to think he can do no wrong. However, I caution those people to consider all the prospects he has given up in order to peak right now. People may not be praising him in a couple years if Justin Smoak ends up being the next Teixera, or one of the stud pitchers in the Mike Adams deal becomes a frontline starter. People will ask whether or not it was worth it. If they can sustain success, then yes it’s worth it. I’m interested to see how his moves pan out in the next 3 or 4 years and whether or not he is able to sustain this level of success.

LOL...
What a half-assed piece of speculation. “it’s very, very clear that this is where he wants to be. He’s waiting all winter, guys who normally have the kind of contract demands he has usually sign in December.” Oh yeah, it couldn’t have possibly been because Boras is his agent, and is notorious for delaying a signing until he gets his client offered the maximum amount of money. Stupid Ranger fan doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.
He doesn’t have one piece of credible evidence that proves what he’s saying. He only has his wishful thinking. That’s not to say that Prince absolutely won’t sign with Texas, but it’s hardly “very, very clear” that he wants to be a Ranger. I’m hoping that someone comes out and offers Prince a huge contract that Texas can’t possibly match.

Last year, Rangers fans and everybody else had convinced themselves that Cliff Lee wanted
to stay in Texas. And then all the sudden he signed back with the Phillies.
"One time, when we got back to the locker room, all of our clothes were gone," Trout recalled. "They left me a Lady Gaga costume and I had to wear it."

That's bull.
His only grounds is the mere fact that Prince hasn’t signed with a team yet. He takes that to mean that he must want to sign with Texas. Whether he indeed wants to play in Texas, I have no clue.
What I do know is that Prince has waited this long for a number of reasons:
He hasn’t attracted as much attention as he anticipated. He thought he could fetch almost $200M as a free agent, but without powerhouses like Boston and New York involved, no one is willing to give that kind of cash to an overweight slugger who will be wholly limited to DH in a year or two.
It’s true that he is waiting for Texas to resolve their situation with Darvish, but not necessarily because that’s where he wants to play. He HAS to wait for them because there are no other teams with enough money to get in a bidding war to drive up his price. Boras also knows that if Darvish isn’t signed, Texas will be desperate to counter our moves and may be suscept to making an irrational move by overpaying for Prince.
Moral of the story, this guy writes for the Dallas Morning News (and is subject to bias) and he’s putting words into Prince’s mouth when he hasn’t even so much as opened his mouth.

Completely agree, especially it the Rangers don't land Darvish
Boras would love to have a desperate team enter the mix.
He probably got paid to say that
and scare the Nationals to up their game.
I love the quotation marks around "very clear" in the headline, as if Prince actually said that.
However, it’s just another beat writer’s wish.
Also, does Grant even follow his own team? They signed Beltre, one of the hot commodities of last offseason, in early January last year.

pretty common phenomenon in Texas, actually.
They’re all just really catching up on the whole baseball thing. No one really cared before two years ago.
Prince will be a Washington National by Thursday night.

3. “Darvish wants five years.”

Nope
His former team hasn’t gotten any news either, as of yesterday. About a week ago, the word was that he wanted a shorter contract than Texas wanted. Nothing since then.

Makes sense
he wants to grab a second long term deal while he’s still near the years where he’d most likely be performing in his prime. If he goes 5 years, he’s back on the market at age 30, and has the leverage to try for another CJ Wilson type deal to tack onto it. One extra year in Texas creates the risk of exposing his first decline year before he can hit that market.

Borass still waiting for Dohhdgers to step up and pay Fielder the big $$$
Probably not in the cards as the Dohhdgers timeline continues to drag this out…Prince may very well end up in Texass or Seattle.
Looks like Texas will go to arbitration with Napoli
that could get a little costly for them.
CONGER, CONGER, CONGER !!!
If I were a StRangers fan I'd be nervous as hell about all this.
If you sign Dravish and Fielder, plus extend players, your team could be built on Josh “The Glass Abstainer” Hamilton, Nelson “Cut Rate Hamstrings of Unknown Age” Cruz, Prince “My Poor Sad Knees and Back” Fielder, Ian “I’m An Asshole and God Hates Me So I Never Play More Than 130 Games” Kinsler, Mike “The Italian Enigma” Napoli, an expensive Japanese (Made in Taiwan) pitcher and Neftali “Stampeding Cow Panic Eyes” Feliz as the core of my very expensive team.
It’s like buying an expensive piece of property in Foster “The Land Under Your Feat is Fake and Can Turn to Soup in a Small Earthquake” City. Things’ll probably be OK, but they’ll probably also break down more than you expect, and you may end up with lungs full of mud, poo and salt water.
Which may be how it feels to live most days in DFW.
I love this team, I love this blog, I will never doubt Arte again and I can't wait to see what happens this year. That is all.
