Payroll After Arbitration = $145.82M
After factoring in the new deals for Callaspo and Aybar, we now have a final payroll for 2012.
This does not, however, include our young guys making the MLB minimum. We'll have roughly ten guys making anywhere from $400-$600K, so you can add roughly $5M to that total.
Impressive. That's the only word to describe it. Dipoto has already shown his aptitude and creativity. That's certainly a welcome change.

Signed pujols and wilson and payroll hardly goes up... Never would have thought it before the season ended

because we just assumed if our idiot GM couldn't do it, it wasn't possible
So this is what it’s like to have competency AND balls up top after so many years of one but not the other.

Seriously though, who talks pujols into leaving st louis and taking massive deferred money? 12 million for 2012 is insane.
That crap seemed impossible; I guess was impossible is more accurate with reagins around. Its awesome that we got the best position player of our generation and the best pitcher on the market and kept our payroll within reason.
Just a fun little exercise I did the other day looking at the beauty of pujols’ deal from the angels point of view…
The way his deal is structured, the million increments are eaten up by a conservative average inflation rate of 3%. By the time 2021 comes around and pujols is making 30 million, inflation will take out about a third of that cost in terms of buying power. So we get a bargain on the best hitter in baseball at 12 million in 2012, 16 million in 2013, and then for the next 8 years, his contract, adjusted for inflation, stays between 21 and 22 million a year… or less than wells will be paid to sit on the bench for the next couple years. It leaves Pujols with a value of right about 201 million in inflation adjusted dollars. This contract is a great deal for the angels and something reagins never would have been able to come up with.
