Would the Tigers be interested in trading for Bobby Abreu?
The article is about V.Martinez's injury, but it does mention Bobby at the end as a potential replacement.
I'd say that Bobby's excellent on-base skills would greatly benefit the Tigers (who blow at getting on base).

Very bad day for Tigers fans, talk about melt-down over at the Tigers blog.
"One time, when we got back to the locker room, all of our clothes were gone," Trout recalled. "They left me a Lady Gaga costume and I had to wear it."
It's very unfortunate, for sure
But I would say that out of all the guys mentioned for the Tigers to sign, Abreu would help them the most (except for the Cuban guy, he’s probably better).
They could get him from us for very little too, since we would probably eat most of his contract.

ehhh i have no sympathy for them
We’ve been there done that, now they have an idea as to how we felt losing K.Mo…
It sucks but the show goes on.

I have been wavering on Abreu ...
I am not sure he has a role on the team this year, except to block other potential bats. But, he gets on base (even if not as much as he used to) and bats left handed (which is rare in our lineup). Until Morales and Trumbo are safely back, I would be reluctant to part with Abreu.
In the long run men hit only what they aim at. Therefore, though they should fail immediately, they had better aim at something high.

If we trade Abreu to Detroit,
I’m pretty sure they’ll have the entire Venezuelan WBC team on their roster.

This is true! They need K-Rod for another Venezuelana.

The Halos need LH bats
Even if Abreu becomes a $9m per season platoon player, there’s no way I’d give him away just as a salary dump.
As Detroit is finding out, depth of talent is critical. There’s no help for the Halos at AAA this year (unless Trout is there). Any talent that exists in the farm system is at the lower levels and years away from contributing at the major league level.
Arte does not need to shed payroll for financial reasons. Keep Abreu unless the team is blown away by a trade offer.

Do I regret this? No, I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby."
But 9 mill just for a lefty?
There must be other options, no?

off the top of my head...
Branyan and Teahen should both be available on major league minimum deals.

There's a reason why both are unsigned

Oh man
That’s really uninspiring…
Branyan was alright last year, but I don’t think I can trust him for a full season.

TRADE WELLS, TRADE WELLS, TRADE WELLS
They don’t really have a right-fielder, they don’t have a DH, and Delmon Young is a terrible left-fielder.

You are cracking me up with this single-minded mission you are on.
But I like it.

Agreed.
I don’t see anyone taking on Abreu unless the Angels eat a good chunk of salary. The guy is valuable, but not amazing, and he can’t play the field that well anymore.
I think Abreu is more valuable to the Angels than some minor leaguer or bench MLB player they’d get in a trade, but on the other hand I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade him.
Damon makes the most sense
He’d sign for about $2M, he can bat #2 and get on base in front of MigCab.
For the Angels to trade Abreu, they’d have to eat $7M, and that doesn’t make much fiscal sense.

Abreu for Verlander?
I’m willing to forgive his antics last summer. This one time…

I'm still waiting for DiPoto to pull off a sexy trade for a reliever...
I’m game for an Abreu – Al Alburquerque swap. His K/9 last season was an amazing 13.92 though he had a horrid BB/9 of 6.02. His xFIP was 2.78 and will be under team control for 5 more years.
We only had two Angels in the bullpen(Thompson and Walden) with a K/9 above league average(which was 7.13). Hawkin’s K/9 was also below average last year.
Just throwing that out there….
yup
would love to add another cheap and effective reliever

That idea briefly popped up in my head the other day.
But Al Alburquerque is Mitch Williams 2.0. The Anti-Abreu analogue of pitchers…
I know he had success unlike some of our big arm, no control guys such as Jepsen…but it still deters me a bit.
