Uganda Denied Trip to LLWS; Canada and J-Roll Play Them Anyway
I am sometimes surprised by what I come across in my daily scouring of the interwebz. I had no idea this was going on, or that baseball was even played in Uganda. That's good for the future of the game, but it would be even better if these kids had been allowed to make some history.
Kudos to the Canadian team and Jimmy Rollins for trying to make amends.

That's the best story I've seen in a long time
Hope it turns into a PR backlash for US immigration and forces a change in policies next year.
Amazing initiative on the Canadian’s and Rollin’s part. Good for them.
And, as the commander points out above, baseball taking off in Uganda and Africa generally would be great for the game. I hope more folks in the game get behind it.
Agreed

This is a great story
I am all in favor of global baseball and this is such a great opportunity for the global growth of the sport. Also, what a great opportunity for the kids on the Canadian team to go to Africa in a relief effort coordinated closely with baseball… I hope that eventually Uganda might field a WBC team.
When I flip a coin I dont say heads or tails, I say Halos or Spurs
Yep
I’m surprised South Africa hasn’t been to the LLWS, considering they’ve been in both inceptions of the WBC.

yeah that is interesting.
I wonder though, the rules of the WBC are that you have to have 1 grandparent. Wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of the South Africa team were born in America.
Chris Denorfia the OF for San Diego played for Italy despite being born in the USA, playing for a small liberal arts college in Mass (WoOoO Wheaton College!)

The State Department and Feds have a very strange immigration policy.
We all know that illegal immigration is a problem in the US, for the most part Immigration officials know where to look for the perpetrators, but the buck stops with a bunch of Ugandan kids that wanted to go to Williamsport for the LLWS. Pretty damn weak. Not too mention inexcusable.
