Yu know Texas wants a Prince
I know that I am not alone on this one. After acquiring Yu Darvish The Rangers are still in on Prince Fielder. I hate to think what he would do in that power heavy lineup.

Where is David Stern when you need him?

I've been saying this for some time
The expenditure of $60M in 2012 for Darvish makes a signing of Fielder unlikely, but not impossible. Ownership might decide to take it in the shorts for a few years and sign Fielder to a deal even more expensive than the total cost of Darvish. The TV money, from which Texas took an advance upon signing last year, doesn’t kick in until the 2015 season, a rumored $80M per season (less the advance). Even with enhanced revenue from post-season play and Japanese interest in Darvish, ownership could elect to run red ink until the contract kicks in if Fielder is signed.
What it does do is complicate the possibility of locking in Hamilton,Cruz, Napoli and Kinsler with long-term contracts. Even backloading Fielder’s contract three seasons simply means that expensive deals for the four mentioned players increases the likelihood of going over the salary cap and into the luxury tax for 2015 if those four players are comparably compensated in long-term deals of their own. Even if Young is traded with the $32M due him for the next two years, Beltre is owed $66M over the next four seasons and it is less likely that contract will be moved.
Additionally, their “cheap” players won’t be inexpensive by 2015: Lewis becomes a free agent 2013, Harrison and Andrus in 2015, and Feliz and Holland hit free agency 2016. Yes, some will be replaced from within the farm system, but certainly not all, and none of the above is a 1B or DH whom Fielder can replace.

I think with the Rangers it's either Fielder or Hamilton, not both.
This will probably be Napoli’s last year in a Ranger’s uniform as he is going to get too expensive for them. Napoli does have a history of shoulder problems and is going in to spring training with the still healing twisted ankle he got in the World Series so that will hurt his extension hopes plus he is going to want way more money than stingy Nolan Ryan is going to be willing to pay.
"One time, when we got back to the locker room, all of our clothes were gone," Trout recalled. "They left me a Lady Gaga costume and I had to wear it."
i agree with all of this
I think Napoli likes it in Texas, but I think he likes money more, and I think he’ll value himself greater than Texas will.
If he’d sign a Victor Martinez size-contract, that’s one thing, but I bet he wants more.

The upfront payout was reported to be $80M
that they got last year. So they could afford Fielder without a ton of red ink, but probably some. It does boil down to how cheap ownership is and how willing they are to ‘invest’ in the team. And yes, in the next 2 or 3 years, they won’t be able to keep all of their players even with their TV money kicking in in 2015. It’s nice to know our payroll will always be $70+M more than theirs for the next 23 years (probably more since our deal included partial ownership). Yeah!
I think Prince is going to be a Ranger
If he is going to DC it will happen in the next week.
Besides Florida I can not even think of another possible suitable. Maybe STL, but I doubt that.
Willits? Check. Reagins? Check. Mathis? Check
I hope you're right.

The Rangers are going to sign Fielder, Hamilton, Kinsler, Cruz and Nips

Napoli = Nips

160, at least.
They’re at 120 with Darvish and raises. If they add Fielder, that’s another 18-20/year more. And if Hamilton, Kinsler, Cruz, and Nap continue to produce monster numbers, their contracts will add up to at least 20/year more combined.

probably around $170M - not gonna happen
if they sign Prince, they’re not extending Hamilton. I could see them not extending Cruz either, given his age and his DL stints. They probably want to extend Napoli, but not for more than around 4/$40M – don’t think that gets it done.

The luxury tax cap is $178M through 2013
Then it goes up to $189M 2014-2016, when the current CBA expires.
The first time the team goes over the limit, the penalty is 22.5%. The second time, it’s 30%, and every time thereafter it’s 40%.

Welll, they just signed Brad Hawpe.
They definitely don’t need Prince now.

This article suggest they WON'T sign Fielder
they are to constrained financially after Darvish. They do want to invest in the team winning, but they’re also way in the red.
…operating at a deficit and will until the new TV contract starts in 2015, but that doesn’t automatically mean that Prince Fielder is not an option…This year, said Simpson, will be the toughest financially….Fielder is not a viable option unless his price goes down and he would accept a backloaded deal.
