GM seems like being POTUS. A thankless job where only ultimate success is ever appreciated. If we get five good years out of Pujols, or even just ONE championship, it’s a victory. That’s my philopshy – that even if your team falls off a cliff for five years, if you win ONE World Series before that, it was worth it. It’s why I think the Tigers made a similarly good move in signing Fielder. They have a window to win it all, and even if they lose some money, even if they become a cadre of cement-footed sluggers who fade in a few years, if they win a single WS, it’s all worth it.
