Wade Davis for Trumbo?
Welcome to the World Wide Leader, Sam. You know you've arrived when Jim Bowden is stealing your ideas.
I'd do this deal in a second, bumping Williams and his power arm to the pen and really rounding out this pitching staff nicely. Trumbo is redundant on this roster, especially with Morales looking like he'll be back and Abreu with his bloated salary on the bench.
Can't see that Trumbo is really a fit for the OBP-loving Rays. Although real power like his is rare in today's game so you never know.

In a heartbeat
The pitching staff would be head and shoulders above the rest of the league. However, not that Tampa has Pena, Trumbo would be redundant on their roster as well so I don’t see it happening.
Let's just sign Jackson on a 1-year deal.

In a good way?
That’s one of those expressions which is sometimes hyperbole and means something good, and sometimes used to express extreme disapointment.

The battery acid will get you every time.
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
Signing a one year deal to pitch in the AL East is not a good business deceision.
Does not set you up for free agency next year.
Willits? Check. Reagins? Check. Mathis? Check
Exactly.
I’m thinking he doesn’t take that deal and ends up on the Cards.

At least we're not talking about David Wright...

Trade for both.
Then package them to Texas along with Pujols for Napoli and a case of what ever hair conditioner Darvish endorses.
I love this team, I love this blog, I will never doubt Arte again and I can't wait to see what happens this year. That is all.

I like keeping Trumbo
This team has health concerns with all OF positions, plus Morales and Pujols. Trumbo adds needed depth and there will be a role for him in the future.

An inter-sport trade would be fascinating
And an NFL defensive coordinator would add outside-the-box thinking.
On Phillips’s signal, Torii could start creeping in as Haren starts his wind-up; when Haren kicks his leg, Torii would crash the second base hole at full speed, basically “blitzing” the infield. Bourjos and Wells would simply rotate over to compensate. Although a little unsound, it would be the perfect way to stop a hit-and-run. Or, if we had Trout and Bourjos in the OF, we could install Scioscia’s version of the “Tampa 2” defense.
DOV inspires once again.

The Rays already solved their first base problem
by resigning Pena and DH is blocked by racist Luke Scott. The only way I could see this happening is if the Rays finally traded Upton, shifted Jennings to CF, and put Trumbo in LF. But I’d be down that would be a seriously deep rotation. Weaver, Haren, Wilson, Santana, and Davis pheeeew
Nope
Convince me Wade Davis is any better than Jerome Williams and Garrett Richards and I might get on board.
I’d hate to see Trumbo go, but if he does, it’s gotta be for someone better than Davis.
League average control, all below average secondary pitches, can’t strike guys out. What’s the appeal?

Exactly ...
Trumbo doesn’t have to show any improvement and he is better than what Wade Davis brings to the table. Like others, I would just as soon make a play for Oswalt or Jackson before trading Trumbo for someone who is worse.
I’m fine with moving Trumbo but only if it restocks the farm or he is packaged with another player and we do a serious upgrade somewhere. Otherwise, hold onto him. Let him try 3rd. Give him Abreu’s AB’s, give him time when Pujols need to DH. Any of the above will work.
If I had any confidence that Morales was going to be back then maybe I’m more interested in moving him. As is he is absolutely worth holding onto.
That's the irony of it...
Scroll down to the player Similarity Scores on Wade’s profile here.
Jerome Williams makes the top ten for both sets of comps.
OTOH, it’s pretty early to cast the final votes on 25-yr-old Wade Davis. This sounds more like a mid-season than pre-season trade scenario to me, if it were to get done at all.
Eh. Yes, Morales looks like he's coming back, but that's what we said last season too.
He’s further along than he was at this time last year but until we see him looking like the Kendrys of old in a regular season game, I for one would rather not make any moves on the assumption that his being on the roster will make another player redundant.
The Mike Trout of pitching.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh NO!
I think not. Trumbo will be a necessary piece of the team until/if (at all) Kendry(s)’ ankle proves it is good to go in any way, shape or form. Until then, I would hold onto him.

I thinkin bjsguess's way.
By mid season we should have a clear sense of which Latin American slap hitters we’re keeping, which DH/1B/Bad Outfielder we are keeping, if we have bullpen surplus (which we might if some youngins work out by July) and we’ll see if Jaramillo was able to Yoda VW into a hitter again. With that laid out, I say JEDI restocks the farm as best he can.

even Yoda himself couldn't yoda VW into a decent hitter

No way I make this trade.
Guys look at his numbers they are not that great. Id much rather have the offense of Trumbo over this guy for a #5. We have plenty of use potential use for trumbo and he will bet his at bats I don’t think that will be a problem.
The Rays already signed Luke Scott and Carlos Pena.
They are good lefty power bats with respectable On-Base skills to fill their DH and 1B spots.
I don’t see why the Rays would do this trade unless they think Wade Davis is only worth a platoon partner for either Scott or Pena.

I think back about all the years the team was longing for home-grown outfield power.
That’s one of the specific reasons they drafted Grichuk.
I also recall that we recently traded away a 25-homer guy, and the persecution we’ve all felt since that event.
It’s widely reported that MLB is lacking power.
I think we’ve got enough “scrap” arms in our system that we can find ONE (or more) to replicate what a Wade Davis might bring to the Angels.
I think trading Mark Trumbo at this point is NOT a good idea……especially for Wade Davis.

Thank you.
gah. We can’t trade Trumbo for garbage.
Again, if we didn’t sign Pujols, he was going to be our opening day first baseman. He’ll have a spot to play. He’s got to.
You almost have me convinced
It’s a great point that raw power like Trumbo’s is a more scarce commodity than a pitcher with Davis’ skill set. But his OBP is unacceptable from a player who brings only offense to the table. He was a rookie but not a very young rookie and I don’t think the league really values the guy like some of us on here do.
Let’s assume Trumbo’s willingness to improve and DiPoto creating an environment that stresses getting on base might help Trumbomb round out his approach at the plate. Vernon Wells is still here for the next three years, Torii will play every day this year, Kendry is here another two seasons and CJ Cron isn’t far away. And some guy named Trout is swimming around, too. Unless this third base thing is for real, where do they play him? I don’t buy the super sub theory. All those guys have to play basically every day, including Callaspo, who was just as valuable with the bat as Trumbo in 2011.
It looks like he’s going to stick around as insurance for Kendrys and that’s fine. If he takes some ab’s from Wells, even better. But there’s going to come a time where they have to make a decision about Trumbo. That, or a bold move involving Wells or Morales.
This is nuts!
No thanks.

Once again, HH educates me
My first reaction was “in a heartbeat.” Now that I’ve read some posts and reviewed the comps, I realize I was wrong.
A player of the same or greater value can be had as a free agent. Why trade talent for him when you can just pay cash?
