The Fuentes Game

2009 - The Angels lose game 2 of the ALCS to the Yankees 4-3 in 13 innings, down 0-2

The Angels had a lead in extra innings and then Jeff Mathis called for a fastball down the middle to Alex Rodriguez, who tied the game in the eleventh inning on one swing that would have been a flyout in 29 Major League parks. Brian Fuentes made the pitch. So predictable.

Joe Sunders started the game and held the potent Yankees offense to two runs over seven innings. Down 2-0 after three innings, the Angels tied the game in the top of the fifth. Erick Aybar drove in Maicer Izturis with a base hit and then later scored form 3B on a wild pitch.

In the top of the eleventh inning, the Angels would go ahead when Chone Figgins drove in Gary Matthews Jr. for a 3-2 lead. A-Rod's homer tied it in the bottom of the frame. Ervin Santana would valiantly pitch two innings of relief but the Yankees squeaked across a late run and the Halos were down two games to none, but were headed home for three straight!
