Counting Down to Opening Day, We Are Counting Down The 100 Walkoff Homers in Angels History. The 93rd walkoff homer: Mike Napoli preps for the postseason with a ninth inning blast.
Opening Day (April 1, 2013) is 93 days away. We are counting down the 100 Walk Off Home Runs in Angels franchise history. Today we look at #93...
September 12, 2008 - The Angels had clinched the Western Division in the American League on the afternoon before, the earliest this division had ever been clinched. But that doesn't mean they let up.
With the score tied 3-3 in the top of the ninth, Jose Arredondo needed only eleven pitched to retire the M's in order. Miguel Batista started the bottom of the frame in a similar fashion, inducing two ground outs on three pitches. Robb Quinlan worked a walk and Chone Figgins was called in as a pinch hitter.
Distracted, Batista went to a 3-1 count before watching a fastball get smacked over the CF wall by Mike Napoli.
The 90th victory of a 100-win season was a walk-off when one might assume the team was taking it easy and coasting into the playoffs. As the 93rd walk off homerun in Angels history showed, that was not the case.
