Rosenthal says Angels still pursuing Burnett
After that tweet, I assume Kenny went back to guarding his Lucky Charms from those pesky kids.
The very notion that the Angels would be chasing after Burnett in a trade--when it is known every Western team is on Burnett's NTC list--is mystifying. What Burnett would bring to the team for approximately $5M to $7.5M per season for the next two years is anyone's guess, but unless this is a chess move to set up a trade of Ervin next, then that would be a hell of a lot of money for a #5 starter.
I think the world would have managed just fine without that speculative tweet.

I wouldn't take him for the league minimum!
This is a trade we would have been pursuing during the Reagins era. I thought we moved past that….. Let’s not take one step back after taking two forward!!!!!

Until a sore shoulder and then a line drive off the kneecap...
makes him the #3 starter.

I get your point, but you think Burnett is the answer to that possible problem?

I like the idea
Cash too? Abreu? Which prospect(s)? Wish I could know what & who they are talking about.
Abreu would probably be involved
$7M for Abreu’s contract and probably another $5-6M to cover money for Burnett. Not going to happen though, Burnett will end up in Pittsburgh
Kendrys wins 2012 AL Comeback Player of the year
Nope
It would be prospects, probably some not on the 40-man. The Yankees would eat all but $10M to $15M of the remainder of Burnett’s deal, the exact amount dependent upon the quality of the players coming in return.
The Yankees wouldn’t want/need Abreu. The purpose in getting rid of Burnett is to free up payroll since Hal has Cashman on a budget. Taking on $9M for Abreu defeats that purpose.

The Yanks want to add a left-handed bat
So I tend to agree with Morales8. In any event, this trade makes no sense for the Angels, no matter what comes back.
Rosenthal mentions that it would likely be Abreu in return
But also that it is unlikely cause Angels are on Burnett’s no trade list.
Not that we’d want him serving up meatballs for us anyways.

But I think the point is that Rosenthal is talking out of his ass to begin with
There is little reason to believe he would waive his NTC to join the Angels and be (at best) the #5 pitcher on the staff, getting 22-25 starts in the year. Likewise, it doesn’t follow that Arte would commit $5M to $7.5M for the next two years for a guy who doesn’t project to be an improvement over Williams, who makes MLB minimum.

I know Rosenthal is reliable
but it sounds likepure speculation, the trade just does not make sense for anyone.

Well the yankees are looking for an Abreu like player supposedly
Another article says they talked with Cleveland about Travis Hafner, and that if a trade is not made they will sign Raul Ibanez, so talk of them wanting Abreu is not crazy.
But I think us wanting AJ might be.
Chupa could be valuable to us if Kowbell and Trumbomb aren’t 100%, and on the flip side, why trade Abreu, for a SP, when we have Jerome Williams in the 5 spot pitching for the league minimum? I say pass on Burnett. Roy Oswalt however…
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE...
I totally agree
Do not want AJ whatsoever. Oswalt would be nice, but don’t think he wants to go that far away from Mississippi.
Actually don’t think we really need another starter, I’d rather another bullpen arm gets added.
Holy Crap I didn't realize Burnett has 33/2 left on his contract

I know he's a weird guy - a little of that Jeff Weaver vibe to him
But he had a 3.86 xFIP last year, had a K/9 of 8.18, and he’s been remarkably healthy for the last four years.
He has other things the Halo faithful could appreciate, too.
If our exposure is limited to $5-7MM-ish, I’d take him.

I would take Burnett for Abreu, assuming there was some salary issues worked out
Every year you end up having to start 9-10 different guys since people invariably get hurt.
Burnett would help a lot for depth. As a 5th starter he’s fine, and Bobby isn’t gonna play that much this year anyhow.
