But I totally agree on you with this one.

You're a shitty human being
Laughing at people with addiction to the extent Hamilton has it is worse than being weak enough to fall into addiction IMHO.
It’s one thing to laugh at a recreational user like Ron Washington but Hamilton was seriously on the brink. You suck.

LSB is saying that Ian Kinsler was with him at a bar called Sherlock's in Arlington.

How did Kinsler know?
Does everybody on the Rangers have some kind of “Hamilton Relapse Alert” on their phones that requires the nearest teammate to go get him when it goes off?
We should have thought of a similar system for when Reagins started getting ideas.

You can argue about control and responsibility, but the fact is when Kendrys Morales got hurt, other blogs were celebrating. When this guy had a relapse, most of us could sympathize with him as a human being.
My point, which my phone decided was worthy of a double post, was that I’m glad to be part of a community that can see past baseball and into the human element of the game.

Josh Hamilton is an absolute joy to watch playing baseball, he’s one of those who really loves the game and plays it with an incredible passion.
More important than baseball though, addiction is a bitch and I hope Josh can get through it okay. Hopefully his family and friends can help him get through this and get his head back on straight.

its faux pot
It is a legal substance that is meant to give a similar high that pot does…. its popular among athletes and some of my friends who go to maritime academies that drug test. It has been inconclusively linked to deaths.
The high is much more paranoid than pot, it is like if you took the paranoia of salvia and the body relaxer of pot… I find it to be an inadequate substitute that is much more dangerous and more evidence of America’s faulty drug laws

by ItCouldHappen on Feb 3, 2012 10:38 AM PST up reply actions
It's no joke
As a regular pot smoker I was intrigued to try some salvia, just for the hell of it. When I went to the smoke shop, the guy running the place talked me into “spice”, saying it was more similar to pot and much mellower than salvia. Being the gluttonous fool that I am, I bought both.
After playing around with each to varying degrees of enjoyment/indifference, I one day had the brilliant idea to load a bong with pot, salvia and spice. After one hit my brain felt swollen and my whole body went numb. I tried to lie down but couldn’t shake the paranoid-out-of-body experience. For a good 10-15 minutes I was sitting on the couch, trying to watch tv to snap out of it but my head was definitely some place else.
Not a fun experience and I haven’t touched spice or salvia again since that time. Interesting that you say research has shown that “spice” (its really just fucking incense, right?) can cause real damage. That does not surprise me one bit considering the un-natural high it gave me.
my research concurs with this

Hope for things to work out for him.
Can’t imagine how hard it is to stay away from that stuff in the spotlight. At least during the season he has something to focus on every day. Offseason is long for fans. Has to be longer for players. Has to be insanely long for guys like Hamilton.

Some people can drink, others can’t. Seems random and, like life, unfair.

I'll Mock Him When He's Clean
Because it’s the nature of jeering a nemesis. But I won’t mock him when he’s ahving problems, because this is a real human being with a family and a life, and no one should have to go through this.
Considering how much he brings to the Rangers, I don’t know why they don’t have someone shadowing his every move. if he wants privacy, he can retire.

I don’t want to beat Hamilton and the others because of an addiction, any illness or injury.

That’s just the cold, hard calculus of it. I mean, honestly, if the guy can’t keep his nose out of high-ball, eff him. There are recovering addicts out there with a lot less going for them.

A lot of choices and control goes into addiction, regardless of severity. Call it whatever you want as a disease, but it’s not cancer. You’re dealt a shitty hand, but you make choices to feed it.

I was comparing cold, crass and insensitive statements.
"We are the JeDi, the ultimate power in the universe. We will do as we choose. And we will destroy any who dare stand in our way."
It goes both ways.
People who imply that just because addiction is a disease the people who suffer from it have no control or should not be held accountable are imo laughable.
People who think that it’s simply an easy choice to stop are also imo laughable.
Both my parents were drug addicts growing up and I have witnessed addiction at it’s darkest depths my entire life. Trust me when i say regardless of any genetic predispositions people are still ultimately responsible for their own actions.
I’ve seen the lowliest addict literally pull themselves out of the gutter outside a crack house and become a successful business woman making 200k a year and a loving vital part of their family. I’ve also seen selfish pricks blow through ridiculous sums of money they inherited and leave their family living in a shelter while they fed their addictions.
Believe me, both of these cases the people involved struggled with addiction the disease. But they made different decisions. Being an addict shouldn’t be a cop out that allows you to fuck up and get a free pass, and any person who is truly in recovery will tell you the same thing.
Do I think Hamilton should be vilified for breaking down and having a few drinks? Absolutely not. We all make mistakes regardless of our own personal demons.
Do I think his disease justifies all actions? Again absolutely not.
People who suffer from addiction do have the ability to make the right choices and they are in control of their own lives. Is it harder for them than some others? Absolutely. But many people have to struggle with things outside of their control and they aren’t given a free pass.
I’m going to get off my soap box now, and go back to looking for meaningful baseball news =p.

You said "Ranger fans had no trouble mocking Kendry's ankle..."
which I took as justification to mock Hamilton’s relapse. If you meant to say the Angels beating a short-handed Rangers team shouldn’t be viewed as a cheapened victory, you didn’t say it very well. I have no guilt if the Angels beat Texas without Hamilton. Teams lose players all the time. At any rate, why would you use Rangers fans as a measuring stick anyways?
BTW, I saw the over at LSB they’ve been bickering about how this is a good thing in that it gives the team negotiating leverage for his next contract. These are the people that are supposed to be rooting for him. I wouldn’t exactly use them as a moral compass.
you left everything off of my post after that ellipses
as if it wasn’t an integral part of my point.
But you know what? Screw Hamilton’s relapse relative to Kendry’s ankle.
He’s missed two years of the prime of his career and possibly will spend the rest of his life with chronic pain from a severe injury. His punishment for what? Being excited about winning a game for his team?
Hamilton’s disease is one only made worse by a lack of self-control. He has himself to blame as much as he does any wiring in his brain. If he relapses, he’s infinitely more at fault for it than Morales can be faulted for having the “audacity” to jump up in excitement.

Even the initial post you're responding to
in no way says the severity of the injuries is the same…just that Rangers fans don’t put an asterik next to 2010, and neither should we if 2012 plays out against them.
Also, as has been pointed out by someone else, this whole blog has been a safe haven for all wishing to mock the addictions of Ron Washington and Josh Hamilton for a couple years now. I’m not even doing THAT much today.

But just a little way above...
I merely said you cannot compare Adenhart’s death to Hamilton’s disorder. They are wholly separate issues.
then…
Rangers fans had no trouble mocking Kendry’s ankle and rolling to the 2010 AL West title because of it
screw’em.
So an alcoholic relapsing and a player injuring himself on the playing field ARE comparable?
Sorry, just looking for the thread of logic.

Again, for about the third time
not what I said at all.
The point of the Morales issue being brought up wasn’t to compare injury, but to point out that we shouldn’t care about “beating their best” or feeling any tinge of guilt over beating a ‘lesser’ squad if Rangers fans don’t feel the need to put an asterisk next to 2010 when they beat less-than-our-best.
The REASONS for playing “less than their best,” in this case Morales’ ankle vs. Hamilton’s alcoholism, had nothing to do with what I was saying.

I'm staying out of this general argument
but the Halo’s would have fallen short in 2010 even if Kendry were healthy all year. That just wasn’t a very good team.
I do indeed lack a set of balls.

Why the Staubach hate Rev.?
I doubt most Rangers fans under 35 even know who Roger Staubach is….And certainly most of them wouldn’t have seen him play.
It seems we have a hunger
for this kind of news, but sometimes I wish writers would let these players deal with issues like this in private. Maybe I am hypocritical, but I am sure there are other stories that writers keep a lid on. Why cherry pick, or kick someone while they’re down. I would be nice to follow the writer around and report on what slob they are.
I honestly don't understand the fascination
I get the “struggle with addiction” storyline, and understand that people can relate, but why does stuff like this become headline news?
“Man with Money Seen at Drinking Establishment” is somehow a big deal, yet “Average Joe Drinks Beers at (insert bar, frat house, club here)” isn’t. It’s as confusing to me as all of the celebutard reality shows out there that somehow remain in existence.

sorry i think that post was lost in language
I have been here for the last 5 winters now and agree this winter has been incredibly mild. The point I was making about “that one snow storm” was how unfortunate it was that in the one storm we had this winter, I still had to dig out m car 3 times. And yes I recognize that in other winters I had to dig my car out many more times and that I should be grateful to have such a mild winter and enjoy the near 60 degrees it was a couple days ago, and that every winter is better than the one before it, winters arent like they used to be blah blah blah.
But I don’t settle for that. I still look back and remember the glory that were SoCal winters. Maybe that is way too much to ask for, but I wasnt really asking for HHer’s sympathy, I was more trying to demonstrate why I watch Jersey Shore.

I had a feeling something was going to happen
When I read that his accountability guy had quit. Wasn’t it his father-in-law? Alcoholics have it harder than us old drug addicts in a lot of ways. They have to watch people drinking and having fun everywhere they go and every time they turn on the TV. Then, some problem crops up and they have to fight the urge to easily walk into the nearest bar or liquor store. I’ve seen men build lives and become pastors and business leaders who relapsed and lost everything at the drop of a hat after years of living sober, productive lives. It’s 100% Josh’s fault he relapsed, but as someone who has been there and fights that fight, I empathize with the guy, know where he is and pray he will get back up. A righteous man isn’t one how never falls. A righteous man is one who keeps getting back up and moving forward after each time he falls. Godspeed, Josh.

Sad part is he’s one of the few who get paid to play baseball and could throw all that away because he just can’t seem to shake his demons. Fuck that, seek professional help, Hamilton. Seriously.

I don't know how you can't feel sorry for a guy (regardless of who he is) who is trying, does good for a while and then slips.
You don’t know what drove him to fail. I have dealt with anger in the past, and every once in a while I will lose it… I still fall, but forgiveness is a key to pressing on and getting stronger. I think everyone has screwed up to some capacity, and will continue to do so… How many times do you forgive? I say, as many times as they ask for forgiveness. Addictions, and other sins are not easy to deal with.
Gotta get up, regroup, and press on.

Self-preservation.
These people who appear on TV lack that quality: athletes, actors, entertainers. The real world doesn’t work the way, yet it has for Josh. Addiction comes in many forms and it poisons the very sanity of people. The cure: show humility and discontinue behavior that got you to that point. I don’t believe that is something too hard to ask for.

Yes, humility i think, works hand in hand with forgiveness...
It takes a humble man to admit that he’s screwed up. But once you do that, you gain strength. That’s not to say that you won’t fall again…
I guess I’d feel sorry for just about anyone (actor, athlete, neighbor, enemy, etc) who is genuinely trying to stay away from any evil (anger, addictions, gossip, lying, etc) and falls. I lose respect when that person just says “screw it all!” and becomes the person that they used to be… Though even then there is pity, but coupled with anger.

I can be a dick
so a large part of me is saying “Not my problem, if the Angels win the division now because of this then I consider this a good thing.” Sure its cold, sure its a not-so-great-person thing to think, but there are very few things in life I am as passionate about as Angels Baseball so someone on another team succumbing to their demons after being publicly lauded for beating said demons is no sleep lost on my end.
However.
I am so incredibly self destructive when it comes to certain people in my life that I know how it feels to do something even though you know its terrible, people tell you to stop, but you can’t stay away. booze is worse on yor system than heroin
heroin is almost inert – the lifestyle around heroin is what kills you, the booze itself dranken long-term can kill you.
Not belittling the dangers of alcohol...
…but the evidence on the relative dangers of these two drugs are fairly well described in the scientific literature. You could start here:

Alcohol ranked very highly (5th out of 20), but heroin really is in a class of its own.

you can’t help those who can’t help themselves. There’s quite a few little choices, decisions, and moves one needs to make in order to wind up in a relapsed state, and he still chose to make all of them.

Second of all, I didn’t compare the severity of his injury to a broken foot. You just missed the point on that one.
It’s not “belittling” shit to say he’s pissing his life away. He is. And it is still about choices. Addiction or not, there’s still an infinite amount of choice he makes. It is obviously an unshared opinion of mine that addicts have too many people going to too great lengths to make excuses for them. They got dealt a shitty hand, but one they can choose to exacerbate.

I am surprised at how much flak you’ve got. I do sincerely feel bad for Josh’s family, friends, children and wife, but when did self accountability go out the window? Josh has at his disposal the financial means and support necessary to fight his addiction, more so than any of us here i’m sure. I gotta admit, I feel less for Josh, than the addict that has no chance at help, or the sobriety that follows. And on a side note, that bum standing at the freeway offramp asking for handouts, or the person talking to themselves on park benches, also more than likely suffer from addiction. I wonder how empathetic most HH’ers are to their plight?

I don’t have a particularly large pool of pity or sorrow for anyone whose ailments derive from some sort of choice. Again, there’s no ill will, but the smoker who develops cancer, the fast food junkie with heart disease, and the alcoholic who won’t stop drinking get pretty much none of my attention compared to the kid with juvenile diabetes, or the man in his 40s who develops Parkinson’s.

Have your noticed you had a mosquito bite on your arm?
It hasn’t itched all day until you noticed it, but once you did you felt compelled to scratch it. Once you scratched it, you made it itch, so you scratch it some more. The more you scratch, the more it itches.
Eventually you have a huge pink area around the bite, it’s obvious to everybody, but the itching is driving you nuts so you keep scratching. Sooner or later a little blood comes out and what started as a little scratch turns into a huge mess.
That’s what drinking is like for problem drinkers.
Can't say I've ever scratched a bite to the point of a "huge mess"
but if I did, I’d blame myself for it.

I actually get what CKOD is saying that in all reality...
The “mosquito bite” in Jeff’s analogy, is in fact self-inflicted. We all make choices in this life, and we face the consequences/rewards of those choices sooner or later.
I feel sorry for people with addiction, but so much of that harm is self-inflicted through indivdual choice.
More Howie please...
It was an analogy I learned in DUI class
It makes sense for those of us who start with a beer or two and can’t stop.
The bite wasn’t self inflicted, but the other behavior is.
The decision to buy the "first beer or two" is still a decision.

If someone has one drink in 365 days,
that’s 27/100ths of 1 percent of the time. (I think it is. You numbers people, feel free to correct me.)
If I find myself lucky enough to not screw up 99 percent of the time, even taking into account the very hard work that goes into not screwing up, I consider that a hard-fought, if minor, victory.
Then I screw up again. Not to get too hippie-dippy-yoga-girlI can’t help it, but I’ve learned that the important thing is getting back up, and doing every damn thing possible to not screw up again. I can’t imagine having to do that in front of millions of people, many of whom are hoping for my failure.

This is interesting commentary on our society...
Where one’s personal problems are his dirty laundry for everyone to see. That’s what being an athlete in the 21st century is, succumbing to media frenzy, making this everybody’s news.
My personal opinion is that yes, this is sad. But, it’s also Hamilton’s problem and he needs to figure it out and face the consequences like a man. I feel for those addicts (I’m a nurse and I get addiction- see it a lot). But maybe I also have become jaded, and I understand what Casey’s KOD is saying when he is saying, in effect, “Hamilton made his own bed, now he has to sleep in it.” I wish he and his family all the best in rectifying this ‘relapse.’
I think it’s sad to see this on the font page of ESPN, purporting to be a story about sports. That’s sort of twisted, isn’t it? It’s interesting what our society has become. This is “news” to everyone.
More Howie please...
its interesting because of what it can potentially do to the AL west race this year
If Hamilton cant play, it changes the whole dynamic of the AL west.

WTF ^^^ This guy....
Hamilton or no Hamilton the Rangers finish in second place and Halo’s in 1st it makes no difference lol.
By the way
since Adenhart was brought up in this thread earlier, I’d like to point out how little sympathy any of us were willing to impart upon Andrew Thomas Gallo when he killed three people. The guy was an alcoholic himself, but no one gave two shits about his “disease” when we talked about it.
The difference between Gallo and Hamilton is more in degrees of ‘luck.’ I’m sure Hamilton has done stupid shit under the influence. Given his extensive history, that probably includes a few trips behind the wheel. Gallo had the “misfortune” (using that word very loosely, since I fault him as much as anyone here does) of his timing through an intersection falling within about a tenth of a second long window where it would destroy dozens of lives. No one, least of all me, shed a single tear for the guy and his alcoholism. Hamilton’s lucky enough to have a support system that’s probably kept his decisions in check when he’s “relapsed.” Because without it, everyone here is demanding his head.

A harsh reality, but a reality nonetheless
Josh Hamilton is a famous and beloved millionaire who was lucky enough to have never crashed into anyone over the many years of drinking and using. Andrew Thomas Gallo was just some poor loser with a drinking problem… only he crashed into three people and will spend the rest of his best years in prison. I GUARANTEE you Josh Hamilton has logged many hours behind the wheel while intoxicated. But Josh’s next NA meeting will consist of him wiping a tear away and taking a newcomer chip. He’ll be fine. He won’t see the inside of a jail cell and he’s still a Ranger. Most addicts relapse a few times – it’s part of recovery.
"Bloody your hands on a cactus tree/
Wipe it on your dress and send it to me."
Rec'd.
I got very little sympathy for some millionaire’s alcoholism. This guy has a mentor who hangs with him during the season and an entire organization full of players and others there to help. Not to mention AA and other such organizations like how about his fucking church.
If you are going to go the “alcholism is tough and a disease, man” then just as CKOD said, you need to impart the same sympathy to Andrew Gallo.
Josh Hamilton gets a billion times more help than the dude who just sat next to me on the subway, talking to himself, drinking a beer and smelling like homelessness and probably gets a billion times more help than Andrew Gallo did. BY THE WAY, did anyone ask how Josh was planning on getting home after those beers? Last time I checked Dallas wasn’t exactly full of public transportation and cabs.
Josh Hamilton can suck it and so can everyone who chooses to throw sympathy at Josh but not share that same sympathy with drunk bum on the street.

CKOD is showing some poise under some intense heat from this stance he is taking
But it is all prospective.
Everyone is always fighting themselves whenever it comes to anything difficult. A lot of people have to avoid going outside when out and about to avoid friends who smoke so they dont fall back into something that they are trying to quit. Married people have to resist the urge to cheat on their wives with the hot secretary that is trying to sleep her way to a promotion. Young kids have to resist the urge to do keg stands on a Sunday Funday because they have a class at 7am the next morning. Some of us have to resist the urge to partake in free donuts because it will make them plump like a one of the hotdogs that plump…. you know the ones. Then there are those who cannot be around certain people because they would then have to resist the urge to say yes to a passed needle, pipe, or pill. Then there are even those who cannot be alone with a child because of deep darkness that propels them to do unspeakable things that that yearn for just as much as the aforementioned vices.
It seems that once one person fails to say no multiple times to some of these things it becomes a “disease”.
But this is where the prospective part comes in. If Hamilton was a convicted child molester and he “relapsed” then I somehow doubt CKOD would get any ounce of hate for dumping loads of internet hate all over Josh’s face. In this case it is one beer. However these types of impulses, addictions, diseases (whatever you want to classify them as) have the same driving influence, same motivating factor, the brain.
So we have a case of a publicly accepted form of addiction, and relapse is a case of sympathy for this poor man’s plight. In another case a relapse would be less socially accepted, therefore the party involved does not receive sympathy but scorn for his actions.
I am sure there is a person going door to door to tell people he is legally bound to tell people he moved into the neighborhood thinking to himself “I have a problem too that I cannot say no to, where is my sympathy?”
Are the problems equal in terms and scale? No.
Smoking a Camel Crush after quitting for four months will obviously never equal a sex crime against a helpless victim.
However the urge, the desire, and the addiction may very well be the same.
So it seems the amount of hate you receive is not because you have a disease or addiction or that you succumbs to your ghastly woes but its more in tune with if your vice is socially acceptable.
Prospective, to me, is interesting sometimes.

I think you mean "Perspective", not "Prospective"
Unless you’re referring to things happening sequentially in the future.
But I digress. Yes, ‘socially acceptable’ is exactly right. Pick your nose in private, not public. Give your 14 year old wine at home, not in a restaurant. Kill animals, not people. I’m addicted to jolly ranchers and road cycling. These are probably socially acceptable. Sadly, I don’t have a hot secretary. Hell, I wouldn’t mind having an ugly secretary, I could use the help. But I digress again.

I hate the Rangers as much as the next Halo fan, but it's definitely crass to cheer the downfall of Josh,
or to make light of his disease.
I think we’re first and foremost humans before we’re baseball fans. Addiction overshadows rivalries. I know the rivalry is fun but using it as a weapon to tear a sick person down is shitty in my opinion.
I wish him the best as it’s an incredibly difficult struggle. I know this first hand as I’ve been dealing with my own alcoholism for the last five years or so. I wish I could just shut the cravings off like a switch but it’s a lot harder than that. No one should judge someone’s willpower or discipline unless they’ve been there themselves.
I respect everyone on this blog and I hope I can continue to do so.

I don't get why...
everyone is blowing this situation up. Hamilton himself said it was no big deal that he just went to dinner and had about 3 beers. He’s at the top and I highly doubt he would go down that path again and destroy what he’s come so far for. Maybe if everyone didn’t make such a big deal and act sorry for the guy he can just put it in the past and get ready for some baseball spring is coming.
I don't think you followed the story very closely
He was at dinner with a member of his family—apparently, following some sort of intra-family dispute—and had “probably three or four drinks”.
It was then that he phoned Kinsler, who met him at the restaurant and took him away from that site to another place, where they talked for some time (and Hamilton didn’t drink at all). Then Kinsler gave him a ride to the car, where Hamilton told Kinsler he was fine and headed home. When Kinsler left, Hamilton went back inside the restaurant and had more drinks.
He stated flatly that when he drinks he becomes a belligerent drunk, though the exact number of drinks which gets him to that state can vary—“it could be the third, or the fifteenth.”
Since he is on probation by MLB—the condition of his being allowed back into the game after nearly losing it all in his early 20s—he could well have “destroy[ed] what he’s come so far for”. I doubt he’d be kicked out of the game, but he may well have to serve a lengthy suspension, during what is a contract year. Think he hasn’t already forfeited tens of millions of potential dollars in salary by his actions?
Don’t minimize this. It is much, much bigger than whether the Angels or Rangers win the AL West. He could very well have tanked his career by his actions, and even if he hasn’t, he will find himself on the shortest of leashes going forward.

A career in which he's already made $13 million (according to BB-Ref)
I get what you’re saying here, but I still don’t feel his situation warrants any extra sympathy. I understand the power of certain temptations, but how much rope does one need to get out of the gutter? If it’s really that much of a problem for him, why not literally pay somebody to knock him out whenever he orders a drink and drive him home? With the unique resources available to Hamilton and the Rangers, this shouldn’t be a serious issue, at least in my opinion. I hope he gets over it, but step one starts with him sacking up and controlling himself.
As for the league’s concerns about this Ranger’s struggles…how many drinks do you think Mike Napoli has had in public tonight?

WIthout turning this into an Oprah show confessional
Alcoholism is nothing I have had to deal with personally, but it is all over Mrs K’s side of the family. I know that the folks involved are, at the core, good people who aren’t weak in their lives, except when it comes to restraint in using alcohol.
I don’t recall anyone here writing that Hamilton deserves any special consideration because he’s famous, or a ballplayer, or because he already makes a lot of money. I think the gist of the comments was that he wasn’t deserving of derision or mockery; nobody is, with alcoholism.
In the same way I hate to see anyone with alcohol or drug dependency let their lives and careers be derailed, this story distresses me about Hamilton. I have no problem hoping he strikes out with the bases loaded during his professional life, but I think he deserves the same compassion as anybody who is involved in a daily battle with alcoholism in his private life.

Really Nate?
Do you think some guy just having a beer would illicit this kind of response?
He’s a recovering alcoholic and he had a relapse of sorts.
He’s not just some guy having a beer. If that was the case, I’d wouldn’t be in therapy three times a week.
He’s on thin ice Nathan. I guess we’re all on thin ice. Like I told Casey, unless you’ve fought those demons, at least consider that before you brofist and marginalize people’s lives into a melange of schadenfreude.

I say that because that's all that happened. Hamilton admitted as much himself.
Nobody was hurt. He didn’t even do anything illegal. He had a few drinks when he shouldn’t have. That’s it. I don’t see why it requires press conferences, articles and so forth.
This is being blown out of proportion…mostly by people who aren’t Josh Hamilton.

they were his rules. He is the one that said no alcohol, so he broke the rules/ expectations
If he will break that rule, then it follows he is in a really bad mental state and isn’t far from being in a position where he would start using drugs again.
Perhaps its the strain of his father in law refusing to be the new guy to watch out for him, but whatever it is, the alcohol sure seems to be an intentional act to show he needs help still.

If you let your fanship get in the way of your humanity
You obviously HAVE no humanity to speak of. I don’t care how strong of an Angels fan I am, I can’t even bring myself to consider Josh Hamilton’s relapse to be positive all because he’d miss part of the season. His addiction is nothing to make light of. I’ve seen what nicotine addiction, alcoholism and drug abuse can do to people. Just because he plays left field for our rival does not make his case any less serious than that of anyone else. We ALL ought to take his problem seriously, and regardless of his impact on his team, we ALL ought to wish him the best in conquering his addiction. He tries, and he tries HARD, to overcome this. Two relapses in three years? That’s a pretty good percentage of sobriety, over 99% of the time.
The TL;DR version: Don’t mock or make light of Hamilton’s situation. His addiction is JUST as serious as anyone else’s. I wish him the best in his journey to forever kick his habit, and regardless of our status as fans, we all should do the same.
