Annual HH Fantasy Thread

It's that time of year again! This year it's a little earlier because MLB has demoted the Mariners and A's temporarily to NPB, or something to that effect. Maybe that was a secret clause in the Yu Darvish posting fee. Anyhow, if you play fantasy baseball, your league has likely drafted by now and you should start playing for real tomorrow. If not, you might want to tell your commissioner to wake up (punch yourself if you are said commissioner).

In this thread, we discuss our collective greatness as virtual GMs.

Fantasy baseball: Yeah, it's this awesome.

So, my draft went down just a few hours ago, and I'm still trying to decide how I feel about it. This is my 4th (maybe 5th, I dunno) year playing, and I think I'm a bit jaded about how well my draft went last year. I seriously made like 10 moves all season in 2011 and was in 2nd or 1st the entire time, breezing into the playoffs. This year, I think I'm going to have to work a lot harder at it.

I had the 8th pick out of 12 on Yahoo!, after being 3rd in 2011 and 10th or 11th in 2010. I have to say I didn't like this spot. I feel like the closer you are to the center, the more screwed you get by the order when it flips. Granted, you should take that into consideration during your draft preparations, but it's something you don't find out until Go Time. I think I did reasonably well early, but after that, I'm not so sure. Here's what I ended up with for my 12-man, head-to-head league:

Infield: Alex Avila; Joey Votto (1st pick); Dustin Ackley; David Wright; Starlin Castro; Michael Morse; Kelly Johnson.

OF: Shane Victorino; Cameron Maybin; Carlos Quentin; Colby Rasmus

Util/Bench: Chipper Jones; Mike Trout; Lonnie Chisenhall

Pitchers: Justin Verlander; Yovani Gallardo; Michael Pineda; Jaime Garcia; Wandy Rodriguez; Edwin Jackson; Henderson Alvarez; Trevor Bauer; John Axford; Jordan Walden.

I like my infield, but my OF seems kind of weak to me, as does the back half of my pitching staff. I was also surprised that the only active Angel I ended up with was Walden. Kendrick, Morales, Santana and Hunter all went literally 1 or 2 picks before I had planned to take them - maddening to say the least. Darvish was stolen from me as well. I also did not realize that Quentin had "flown out" to surgery for a few weeks, and would have picked Yonder Alonso in the same round instead if I had known. Such is the reality of real-life distractions taking you away from important things.

Anyway, that's how my fantasy situation looks for 2012. I think I was forced to take more gambles than I had planned due to my position, but I still think I have a shot. I'm just going to have to get creative. How are you boys and girls lookin'?
