September 19, 2012; Anaheim, CA, USA; Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher C.J. Wilson (33) is relieved by manager Mike Scioscia (14) in the third inning against the Texas Rangers at Angel Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE
C.J. Wilson did not pitch past the 3rd inning after giving up three runs on four hits as the Angels offense could not produce enough runs, despite Albert Pujols' return to the lineup, as they lose their 61st game of the season 6-2 and fail to gain ground on the wildcard leaders.
Angels skipper Mike Scioscia wasted no time in giving CJ the quick hook and entrusting the bullpen to keep it a close game. Jerome Williams took the ball and had an outstanding relief appearance, allowing just one hit over 4.1 innings with four strikeouts and ZERO runs. In the 5th inning, Howie Kendrick doubled to lead off the inning and Alberto Callaspo connected for his 10th HR of the season to cut the Rangers lead to 3-2. Mix in some letdowns by Garrett Richards and Jordan Walden in the 8th inning and this game was over. With Baltimore winning in extras against Seattle and Oakland losing to Detroit tonight, the Angels find their playoff hopes treading water with precious few games remaining.
