Final Score in Oakland: Angels 7 Athletics 1

Get out the broom! The Angels are back in the Wild Card chase in a big way after sweeping the Oakland Athletics on the road at the (insert name here) Coliseum.

Torii Hunter drove in a run to break an early scoreless tie and scored on a Howie Kendrick bases loaded single. Late in the game, Torii made a 4-1 contest a laugher with a two run single just after pinch-hitter Maicer Izturis was granted ball four with the bases loaded by Oakland reliever Grant Balfour.

A scary moment in the game came when Erick Aybar lined a pitch from A's starter Brandon McCarthy off of the pitcher's head. The ball was hit so hard that it quickly caromed to 3B and the Angels SS was thrown out, but more importantly McCarthy never lost consciousness and left the field under his own powers. All hope is for an unharmed, speedy recovery to the veteran hurler.

Dan Haren seemed to be approaching the far reaches of ThirdStarterVille on his hopeful trek back to Aceland. The Angels righty allowed only three hits and one earned run while striking out seven. Although he did walk three batters, this is a majestic performance from Haren compared to where he was a month or more ago. In the seventh inning with the score 3-1, Nick Maronde relieved a shaky Garrett Richards and struck out the three Oakland batters he faced. Dude was pitching in Double-A Arkansas ten days ago.
