Jered Weaver Shoulder Tendinitis Slates Angels Ace as Day to Day

MLB.com reporter Alden Gonzalez tweeting some bad news...

Angels ace Jered Weaver was hit in the shoulder by a sharp line-drive last Saturday in Seattle. He was examined yesterday by physician Lewis Yocum and diagnosed with shoulder tendinitis. This is good news relative to the worst-case scenario, but with 25 games left and a semi-difficult schedule ahead, the lingering, nagging nature of tendinitis is not really a best-case scenario by any definition.

In the short-term, this has already been dealt with, today's off-day being quite the godsend in shaping the rotation. The Detroit series this weekend has some difficult pitching matchups, but the marine layer might be evening out things more than one would first imagine. Pray for almost rain. Ervin Santana will face Max Scherzer on Friday night, Justin Verlander will be crying about bunts at some point in his matchup against C.J. Wilson on Saturday night and the 5.40 ERA of Anibal Sanchez will be quite welcome on Sunday afternoon when Zack Greinke takes the mound.

Things get interesting after Monday's Dan Haren rematch with the Oakland Athletics in Anaheim. All eyes are on Tuesday night... Depending on weekend bullpen usage this may be the opportunity for a spot start by Garrett Richards or Jerome Williams or even the Angels debut of recently recalled Barry Enright. Perhaps the recently discovered tendinitis will have subsided and the Angels ace of aces will be able to make his start then against Oakland's scheduled starter... Brandon McCarthy.
