Counting Down to Opening Day, We Are Counting Down The 100 Walkoff Homers in Angels History. The 84th was the sixth career walkoff by the Kingfish, Tim Salmon, a franchise mark.

Opening Day (April 1, 2013) is 84 days away. We are counting down the 100 Walk Off Home Runs in Angels franchise history. Today we look at #84... the Seventh by the Kingfish

September 23, 2003 - It was the final homestand for a sad season after such a magical 2002. The starting lineup glares with the absence of last year's men. Oh sure, GA, Kingfish, Speez and AK are there, but that is your 3-6 hitters. Chine Figgins leads off, still a supersub, Jeff DaVanon bats second, the 7-8-9 hitters are catcher Shawn Wooten, Wilson Delgado at 3B and Alfredo Amezaga at SS.

But this Tuesday night game offered something quite historic. Tim Salmon hit the sixth walkoff homerun of his Angels career. That broke a tie with Brian Downing for the all time franchise lead. Two players in club history have 11% of the walkoffs.

It was a plodding game. Maybe the most interesting thing about was the Angels starter who threw eight shutout innings: Scot Shields. Troy Percival came in to save the 1-0 Shield three-hitter but walked two and gave up a run-scoring single. The Angels did nothing in the ninth inning and so the 1-1 game went into extras. Ex-Angel Shigetoshi Hasegawa retired Anderson but Tim Salmon hit a 2-2 pitch to make it 2-1 Angels in the bottom of the eleventh. Frankie Rodriguez got the Win with an inning of relief. Tim Salmon got the title of Mister Angel within a year of that blast.
