I know that many of you will think that this sound like heresy but its pretty much a given that the Angels will not be able to retain Trout when he becomes a free agent. When they finally accept that they will trade him close to his free agency year and will receive less than they would if they trade him now. Typical Angels operating procedure. The Angels probably will also not be playoff competitive for the next 2-3 years. In the meantime Trout builds his stats towards his free agency which will make him more valuable for another team [Yankees, Phillies, Orioles] when the time comes. Given that that scenario has a good probability of occurring and that as he ages he has an increased probability of age or injury impacting his greatest asset - speed - why not trade Mike Trout now for pitching AND hitting? Imagine what the Angels could receive in return -- no prospects please --......but then its also very scary how DiPoto could screw up such a trade and squander a huge opportunity. Anyone out there agree??
