Hey Hey HH! I've missed you all. Not much time for me to waste on here with all you unemployed drunks since I started teaching 6th grade midyear. But I'm doing my best to brainwash them into being Angels fans. Every morning we sing "California Angels A OK" instead of doing the pledge of allegiance.
But seriously, I'm starting an Angels bulletin board with Angels related articles, baseball cards, etc. I'm going to hang one of my Trout "The Catch" posters and maybe bring in a couple bobble heads. One of the other 6th grade teachers is a diehard Dodgers fan with memorabilia all around her desk, so we will certainly have some run-ins this season that will entertain our students.
Today was National Read Across America Day, and one of the passages I read aloud to my class was from Once They Were Angels by Rob Goldman. I read the beginning of the Nolan Ryan chapter where it describes the time he beaned a Red Sux player in the head and thought he killed him. My students were riveted!
Also, I'm looking forward to teaching them all some baseball fundamentals in PE class so that they have a chance to beat the teachers in the annual 6th graders versus teachers softball game in May. Although I personally hope to go 4 for 4 with 4 HR against those sorry punks.
Anyway, I'm wondering who might have any helpful hints on how best to indoctrinate them into the Halo way of life. Were any of you turned on to the Angels by a teacher or some other adult besides your parents? I only have 3 more months with these kids, and if I don't make an impact on their lives now, we might lose them, perhaps to the Dodgers or Yankees, or even worse...SOCCER!
P.S. If this doesn't have enough WAR or BABIP to be a Fan Post, I apologize. I thought it would spark enough conversation to merit a Fan Post, and it didn't really seem to fit into a Fan Shot category.
