Scrap Heap Pickups: Is There Anybody Out There?

Remember this kid? - Elsa

Hey you, out there in the cold, getting lonely getting old can you feel me?

As we head into the final week of Spring Training, the Angels still have the same question marks they did heading into Spring Training: starting and relief pitching. Between free agents who have not signed, veterans who can opt out of minor league deals and the waiver wire, is there anybody who might benefit the Angels?

Jose Valverde and K-Rod are both unsigned. Probably because both are represented by Scott Boras and have huge egos. However, neither has great leverage or a solid 2012 on their resume. Valverde at least has a solid 2010 and 2011.

Matt Capps was just released by the Indians. Normally not a good sign, but the Indians are improved. Pedro Feliciano is rumored to opt out of his deal.

I'll admit, I was a little intrigued by Jon Garland before he signed with the Rockies. Of course, I am convinced (until shown otherwise) that Hanson will be injured and/or ineffective. For that reason, Chris Young is somewhat interesting. Of course, Garret Richards could be an in house solution to the Tommy Hanson problem.

The Dodgers are likely going to need to trade a surplus pitcher for a very small return. Aaron Harang? Chris Capuano?

None of the names are sexy. But we're approaching last call, the sexy options are gone, and "serviceable" is the key term here. Make a move or stand pat? Is there anybody out there?
