Dear Rangers fans,
THAT is how a fan base welcomes back a former hero. It doesn't matter if he signed with a rival team--the five years spent as a key player and leader should trump the disappointment. Remember, YOUR team didn't even make an offer, so it isn't the player's fault he signed elsewhere. Even the boneheaded comments made by the player following the departure need to be set aside.
Torii showed up in a Tigers uniform, was announced to the fans in his first at-bat, and received a rousing welcome, along with many homemade signs thanking him and welcoming him back to Southern California.
If the sight of this gave you a sense of deja vu, it is because the same things happened a few seasons ago when Vlad Guerrero returned as a Ranger.
Watch, and learn. You can't blame everything you do wrong on the Texas public school system forever.
THAT is how a player responds when he returns to the scene of former glory: He lets his playing do the talking. Torii hit, ran the bases, and showed off his arm from right field.
Watch, and learn. Take notes, for God's sake. You'll be back in Arlington before you know it. While it is said there is never a second chance to make a first impression, that doesn't really apply here. Next time you face the Rangers in Texas, just kick ass.
