Erick Aybar hit a bases-loaded triple and scored on an error on the play as part of a six-run seventh inning to come from behind and beat the Baltimore Orioles. Down 3-2 going int the inning, the Angels batted around. Hank Conger hit a solo homer early in the game and Albert Pujols hit a two-run shot to cap that big seventh inning.
Pujols finished with three hits to the benefit of spot starter Jerome Williams who, battling the oppressive heat and humidity, pitched six innings, striking out four, scattering nine hits and only giving up four runs. It was a bit of a battle for Jerome. He gave up two home runs - both were solo shots, but he has looked better in recent starts. His ERA went above three but his Win total is now five, which even though it is a semi-meaningless stat is still a big number in Halo-Land.
The bullpen was great allowing just one hit in three innings. An unearned run scored as Josh Hamilton lost a fly ball in the sun but let's take it. The bats were as we were led to believe they would be. Remember back in Spring when we thought this team would be an offensive juggernaut winning many 9-5 games? Well today the tease gave up the goods.
The Angels fly home this afternoon, have tomorrow off and host the Yankees for three at Angel Stadium beginning Friday.
