Weaver's Sunday Win Historic in Angels History

THE WEAVE. - Otto Greule Jr

Look out Nolan and Chuck...

Jered Weaver got the win in Sunday's Angels defeat of the Mariners. It was the 110th Win of Weaver's career, all of them with the Angels. He had been tied for third place with Mike Witt at 109 victories as a Halo. He now ranks third alone all time in franchise history.

Sure, insert default post-sabr-consciousness boilerplate about the inaccuracy of Pitching Wins as a measurement of true talent. Sure. Wins don't mean what most fans once assumed they did nor what some people today still believe the indicate, but they don't mean nothing. Even if they have been ridiculed while being reduced to a sentimental benchmark, some of us still find them cool, especially in relationship to historic greats.

Next up stands Nolan Ryan, who had 138 wins for the franchise in 2,181+ innings pitched as an Angel in the 1970s.

The franchise wins mark is held by Chuck Finley with 165 Wins in 2,675 IP as an Angel.

Weaver ranks fourth in WAR (Wins Above Replacement) among pitchers in franchise history, quickly closing in on #3 Frank Tanana who amassed 34.4 WAR in 1,615+ IP as an Angel. The Weave has 32.2 (in 1,442 IP) on the list that is also headed by the Fin-Express 1-2.

Weaver is signed through the 2016 season. He has a full no-trade clause and is being paid $16 Million this year and next, $18 million in 2015 and $20 million in 2016. He will turn 31 on October 4.

He can always brag that Bill Gates through out the first pitch of his career 110th victory. Congratulations, Jered.
