Final Score in St. Petersburg: Angels 1 Rays 4
Remember that great game that Garrett Richards pitched against the Yankees a few weeks back? It is in the rearview mirror now, just like 2002 as the Angels transform before our eyes to losing without any heart, soul or statistically relevant impact.
Richards allowed a run in the first inning and then imploded in the fourth - the short leash telegraphing to all that Scioscia don't like this guy. The third run of the inning that he gave up was on an error by Erick Aybar - his own manger didn't even give him the benefit of the doubt, no, he went to Buddy Boshers instead.
To manufacture one run the Angels had to start an inning off with two singles, a grounder to the right side to move them over and then a deep fly to score the man on 3B. So with two out and one on Chris Nelson hits a weak groundout and pulls a hammy on the run down to 1B. He was out on the basepaths, out of the game and who could blame anyone for missing all that as it happened in the seventh inning long after the game was decided.
OH WAIT - Mike Trout made a great catch, yeah there was that. Tomorrow is a 9:30 AM getaway game. ZZZzzzzzz...
