Right out of the gate we're getting a real exciting pitching matchup. The struggling Jerome Williams goes up against a Rangers offense that blasted the Halos late in each game last week. Martin Perez, however, went the distance and dismantled the Halos through more seven and third innings. At least Nelson Cruz can't be a part of the explosion that Jerome Williams has been so inclined to allow this season. For all the runs that Jerome can give up, the Angels need Mike Trout, Josh Hamilton, and Mark Trumbo to pick up of slack. And on top of that, other guys need to pick up Hamilton's very own slack.
Prepare to be entertained on Tuesday when Yu Darvish takes to the pitching mound. The Angels have only seen Darvish once this season (April 24) and he clobbered them through six innings with eleven strikeouts and three hits given up. Fortunately for the Halos, Garrett Richards was able to find his stuff against the Blue Jays. Richards allowed only four hits in a win against the Jays on Thursday. In the final game of the series, Tommy Hanson looks to avoid another below-average start.
Last week the Angels were stunned with walk-off losses by the Rangers and this week the bullpen MUST shape up to avoid yet another disaster. First of all, Ernesto Frieri needs to get himself out of the tank. In just over four innings against Texas this season, he's walked two men and allowed by five runs (three of which came last week). By no means can he go on like that. Dane De La Rosa, too, contributed to one of the losses last week. The Angels need to start testing new options if Frieri can't consistently come through with success.
Probable SPs -- Martin Perez / Jerome Williams, Yu Darvish / Garrett Richards, Alexei Ogando / Tommy Hanson
