According to Angels Media Maven Eric Kay, Trout is the sixth major league baseball player since 1900 with 350 Hits and 140 walk before age 22 - the other five were Mel Ott, Al Kaline, Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx and Ken Griffey Jr. That is five Hall of Famers and a coming first-ballot HOFer.
Kay also tweeted another legacy of Trout's: Trout is the third player ever to compile 65 doubles, 15 triples, and 50 home runs before turning 22, joining only Kaline and Mantle.
Michael Nelson Trout was born August 7, 1991. Iraq was invading Kuwait. OJ Simpson was happily married to Nicole Brown. Nirvana was making plans to film a video for Smells Like Teen Spirit for their yet-to-be-released Nevermind album. Tupac Shakur would have to wait three more months for his debut 2Pacalypse Now to be released.
To put Trout's age in perspective, only one other Angels player was born in the 1990s - pitcher Michael Roth was born in February, 1990, over a year and half older than Trout; On the bubble between the majors and minors, when young Roth gets sent down he gets shipped to AA. The next youngest Angels are also pitchers - Nick Maronde was born in September of 1989, Garret Richards in May of 1988. The next youngest position players to appear with the team this season are Hank Conger and Luis Jimenez, both 25, both born in January of 1988.
There is seemingly nowhere to go but up (although if Arte doesn't sign him... out!). Happy Birthday Mike.
