Angels Master Indians, Trout & Ibañez Give Late Clutch

Yes Indeed! - Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Skaggs pitches 7 allowing 3

Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 6 Indians 3

The Angels clicked on all cylinders after foregoing batting practice to start a nine-game, ten day homestand. They came back from a 3-1 deficit when starter Tyler Skaggs saw his only mistake deposited over the CF wall for a three-run Carlos Santana home run. Those were the only runs he would allow and the offense made sure that no L would hang on him.

Mike Trout tripled in the first inning and scored but his eighth inning double drove in the go ahead run. Erick Aybar had tied the game with a fifth-inning two-run double. After intentionally walking Albert Pujols, Tribe starter Justin Masterson then allowed a booming two-run triple to Raul Ibañez.

Show of Hands: Did you ever think you would see the word TRIPLE and IBAÑEZ in the same sentence this season?

Joe Smith faced his old team in his first appearance as the Angels closer. He got the Save after Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless eighth inning to scoop up the win, but it was Skaggs who dominated. He threw 70 strikes and 33 balls, the only mistake being that fourth-inning bomb. Skaggs allowed four hits, one walk and struck out six. Light up the home-cookin Halo!
