Mike Trout had an MRI on his back Wednesday in Houston. The results showed no problems beyond inflammation.
The Angels superstar CF has had one plate appearance since last Thursday. It came yesterday, Tuesday, and he took himself out of that game soon afterward. The only cause listed was "mid-back discomfort". After having sat out two games and resting on the Monday off-day, for him to take himself out of the game on Tuesday caused Mike Scioscia to declare that it was time to "Take a Half-Step back". That translated into "Get the kid an MRI to check for damage". Well there was none.
The approach to treating mild inflammation in the mid-left area of the back is a lot simpler than addressing an injury to that area of the body.
Is it conceivable that Trout will play on Thursday night in against the Astros? Yes, but the likelihood that he will have another day off punctuated by Tylenol and massages is my bet.
