Final Score in Boston: Angels 4, Red Sox 3
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Huston Street struck out Angel Killer™ Mike Napoli with the tying run on 2B and the winning run on 1B. He earned the Save of a 4-3 Angels victory, but the real save came in the bottom of the second inning when Kole Calhoun lept up over the short Fenway Park bullpen wall in deep, deep Right Field and pulled back what would have been a three-run home run. So far that is the catch of the season and the non-Trout catch of the decade for the Halos.
Jered Weaver was so-so, doing a great C.J. Wilson impression in getting his pitch count up each inning with needless baserunners in 5.1 Innings Pitched, but unlike Wilson last night, he got tagged for some runs, allowing seven hits, four walks and three earned runs - one of which was a green monster home run by David Ortiz that would have been a fly out to the warning track in every other stadium in baseball. But what Fenway taketh away, Fenway also giveth - like that short bullpen wall and funny bounces on diagonal walls that turn doubles into triples.
The Angels bats were pretty cool all things considered - Howie Kendrick was 0-4 with three men left on base and also grounded into a double play. For all the talk abut moving Josh Hamilton down in the lineup, Howie is looking like your number eight hitter - speaking of which, Brennan Boesch finally broke through with the bat, bashing a 2-out double in the ninth inning off of Koji Uehara. He was brought home by Chris Iannetta on a double off the monster. Fenway giveth!
Why is Iannetta not batting cleanup is all I can ask as Angels fans everywhere enjoy a lit Halo and a guarantee of sole possession of first place by at least half a game pending the outcome of the game up north tonight.
