Does anyone else think that batting Trout at the 2 spot is stupid? It's like Scioscia is unsure what he wants from Trout. Either you let him leadoff and be that dynamic get-on-base, terror-on-the-bases type player like he was for his first season and a half, or, go all-in on what I feel Scioscia is trying to make Trout - a run-producing slugger - and move him to the 3 spot already. Personally, I would have liked him to stay at the leadoff spot, especially while he's still young and super athletic, but we know that's not gonna happen anymore since Scioscia has seen he's a certified slugger.
I propose that Sosh slot Trout at the 3 already. If he did, it would fix a couple lineup problems and make the offense that more dynamic. He's already driving in a ton of runs at the 2 spot, so why not put him in an even better spot to drive in more? He'd be well over 100 RBI if he'd been at the 3 from the start. With Trout at the 3, my lineup would look like this:
Calhoun
Aybar
Trout
Pujols
Hamilton
Kendrick
Freese
Iannetta/Navarro/Cowgill
Conger/Cowgill/Iannetta/Navarro
This helps the lineup in several ways: 1) Take the pressure off hamilton to be the cleanup man while still allowing both him and Pujols to be in prime run producing spots 2) Aybar is great at the 2 because he's great at moving up batters with his bunting ability and his ability to put the ball in play in general 3) You never have to even consider slotting Aybar or Kendrick in the cleanup spot again
Thoughts?
