The Angels have long had issues in player development which translated to prospects with raw talent fizzling out in the minors before they could reach the majors. Today, Billy Eppler and his staff took a step towards changing that.
#Angels have hired David Newhan, son of the great @RossNewhan1, as minor league INF coordinator, Jeremy Reed min. lg. hitting coordinator.

Newhan played in the majors for eight years for teams, mostly with the Phillies and Orioles. After retiring, he coached for four seasons in the minor leagues as a hitting coach for the Padres minor-league affiliate Lake Elsinore Storm and as a manager for the A’s affiliate Vermont Lake Monsters. Most recently, he served as an assistant hitting coach with the Detroit Tigers from 2014-2016.
Reed also played in the majors for eight years with the Mariners, Mets, Blue Jays, and Brewers. Reed was a minor league hitting coordinator with the Milwaukee Brewers organization from 2014-2016.
These hires show that Eppler is dedicated towards revamping the Angels’ player development, which will hopefully yield better results in the minors and majors in the short-term and long-term future.
