Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Game 156/162

Bill Stoneman @ Billy Beane

Official Game Thread

Lackey vs. Blanton

My Runs/Hits Picks: LAA 5/9, OAK:3/8

Elvis Presley wore a ring. He had a matching ring made for each member of his posse.
To receive the ring was to have passed the initiation. On the ring were three letters:
TCB. Take Care of Business.

That is all the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have to do.

Random i-tunes lyrics:
Got A Lot O' Livin' to Do by the King Himself

There's a balmy little breeze
that's whistling through the trees
and it's telling you to pitch a little woo with me
Why don't you take a listen
you'll never know what you've been missing
Cuddle up a little closer and be my little honey bee
Oh got a lot o' living to do
A whole lot o' loving to do
Come on baby, to make a party takes two

elvis
i used to frequent a now-demolished bar in costa mesa called The Stag. one of the locals in there was a guy who claimed to be one of elvis' bodyguards back in the day. he wore a big gold-chain necklace with a giant medallion in the shape of an eagle on it, and he used this as proof to the young girls that he was legit.

i watched this guy pull this move on the young girls every time he was there. eventually my friends got sick of his act and rented "Blue Hawaii" to see if he was in it.

He was.

I heart A's
Feel the love of this A's fan on their blog:

"...but I have to admit I Hate To lose to the Angels more than any other team...it might seem weird to HATE a team, but for real, I HATE THE ANGELS.. I Hate them now, I Hated them when they were the California Angels, When I think about it I hate southern california in general.... I wish it were a seperate state...."

is this the blog equivalent to posting the Enemy's trash talk on the locker room bulletin board?

Bengie-watch
Needs zero HR, 4 RBIs, and to go either 0 for 15, 1 for 19, 2 for 22 or 3 for 29 ... to finish with .281, 14 HR, 71 RBI for the third time. Hopefully we clinch after two, so I can actually root for him sucking.... (and, hopefully, given a week off).

by mattwelch on Sep 26, 2005 6:48 PM PDT reply actions

hey there
it sounds like you don't want bengie back next year! where's your "can-do" spirit, there, tiger! let's turn that frown upside down! hugs

by yeswecan on Sep 26, 2005 6:55 PM PDT up reply actions

CAN DO
a lot better that Senor Turtletrot.

by Rev Halofan on Sep 26, 2005 6:55 PM PDT up reply actions

I like Bengie
just messin with ya.

Someone else is gonna overpay for him this offseson no doubt.

by Rev Halofan on Sep 26, 2005 6:56 PM PDT up reply actions

I like Bengie, too
And Glaus was my favorite player, and Percy's a lifer, and all that. But I'm sure glad we won't do more than offer him a one-year arb deal.

Hey, man
It's championship week.  It's the first time I've ever been in the championship series.  I need to win the money to pay off a gambling debt.

by LA Seitz on Sep 26, 2005 7:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Hey, look at the brigh side
He didn't pop up.

That's not really a bright side, is it?

by LA Seitz on Sep 26, 2005 7:35 PM PDT reply actions

Nice job, Frosty!
It wasn't a pop-up, but at least the effects were worse!

by mattwelch on Sep 26, 2005 7:35 PM PDT reply actions

And that's why...
  1. Blanton is a RHP who's worse against righties.
  2. Rivera's a RHB who's better against righties.
  3. Finley's a LHB who's better against lefties.
Odd choice to bat Rivera eighth.

by Sean @ Halos Heaven on Sep 26, 2005 7:38 PM PDT reply actions

Better and FInley in the same sentence?
I prefer to think of Finley as not better, but rather "less worse" or "less crappy" against lefthanders.

Finley and better should only be used alongside one another when comparing another player to Finley.

by LA Seitz on Sep 26, 2005 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions

.263/.311/.439!
That actually compares favorably to my grandmother!

Versus lefties, anyway.

by Sean @ Halos Heaven on Sep 26, 2005 7:44 PM PDT up reply actions

My favorite quote so far....
"Do the Angels broadcast team ALWAYS wear their 2003 WS rings, or are they doing it for this series only??"

there goes the perfect game

He went
Lackey has a 0-run Lackey inning!

by Sean @ Halos Heaven on Sep 26, 2005 8:05 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah
It kills me to shell out the $4 for the MLB day pass when I've already paid for Extra Innings, but these are just too important.  I'll have to do it tomorrow, too.  Why in the name of funky funky brodway these games aren't on EI is beyond me.

Otherwise known as Athletics Nation...

"A's now down 4-2.  Mike Scioscia complaining?  I've never seen that before.  I don't think I've really despised a coach in any sport as much as that guy.  Whiniest.  Coach.  Ever."

Hudler's worst ever
"Big John Lackey has his team on Trackey."

by mattwelch on Sep 26, 2005 9:18 PM PDT reply actions

Up against it
The cornered animal is the most dangerous, and the A's are cornered, injured, and have nothing to lose.  The ninth is going to be interesting.

by Sean @ Halos Heaven on Sep 26, 2005 9:23 PM PDT reply actions

at least
frankie will have the bottom of the order

by mattwelch on Sep 26, 2005 9:40 PM PDT reply actions

From the A's thread
19,000 for a Monday night in Oakland is actually above the norm for such a night

Boy...that's...really something to be proud of, guys.

by LA Seitz on Sep 26, 2005 9:41 PM PDT reply actions

i bet
the only reason for it being "above the norm" is because of the angel fans at the game

by Sam @ Halos Heaven on Sep 26, 2005 9:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Hudler
"One more nail away from the coffin."

by Sean @ Halos Heaven on Sep 26, 2005 9:51 PM PDT reply actions

i should tape the tv broadcasts
hudler had so many laughable comments, but i wouldn't want to re-live them twice in order to write them down.

by yeswecan on Sep 26, 2005 10:14 PM PDT reply actions

Panther Awards
goes to Lackey for staying cool, to Frosty for lighting a match, and Rodriguez for converting his 15th straight (though not without Hollywood showing up for a number of those).

PAN-THER!
