JEFF WEAVER'S AN ANGEL
Pitcher Jeff Weaver is an Angel. The ink is dry.
No specifics, but I got a call from my most trusted source saying all the rumors are true, the hometown discount applies (albeit with an incentive-laden two-year deal) - that the geography won out for the Halos and the older brother of Jered told BoBo Boras to back off.
You will hear about Monday everywhere else as Stoneman scrambles over the weekend to adjust the 40-Man roster.
UPDATE: Let this strengthen suspicions about the Manny trade being on the front burner.
Kelvim Escobar, Steven Shell and Juan Rivera to Boston is the latest...

The one guy you can't include in a Manny trade
Your LF/RF/DH situation would be an arthritic, a walking chiropractic commercial, and the worst left-fielder in baseball. Someone will definitely get hurt, and defensive substitutions will definitely be needed. And there's no one besides Juan around to do those jobs.
As for Jeffie
Let's hear more about how Stoneman totally sux because of the Beane count!

Manny Mota
Stennett made up for this by scoring 2 runs and getting 2 rbis in the same game. Give up 2 on defense and help get 4 on offense is a net plus 2 for the game.
Artists plus beer?
if the LA Times..
Who's your 4th OF?
if you do this trade...
oh, and...
I think the Angels only have 39 on the 40 man...

hey, if Kendrick is that good fine with me....
I just know there have been a lot of can't miss prospects that have missed and missed badly. I think Wood is definitely untouchable, as well as Santana, I just haven't seen much of Kendrick. It he's that good, it's good to hear. Let's hold off on the next Tony Gwynn talk until he plays a Major League game though.
One thing I do not want to see is us wasting the prime years of Vlad by not giving him any protection. If we don't get anyone else, Scoiscia better not bat GA 3 and Vlad 4 or I might flip!
Now I know you're as proKotchman as it gets, but would you do Callaspo and Kotchman for Manny then?
Same story with Glaus
No.
Yes, sometimes can't-miss guys fall a little short (Dick Schofield is the best example I can remember); but just because a guy doesn't become the next Willie Mays doesn't mean he ain't useful, especially when he's cheap. Jack Howell (to throw out one "disappointment") should have been a highly productive 70% starter (sitting against lefties), but because he was so "disappointing" he was traded for Shawn freakin' Abner, then we threw millions to watch Gary Gaetti suck eggs.
Besides, Casey Kotchman is the only person in the Angels organization ready to provide plus offense at 1B in 2006. You'd be improving your DH production by kneecapping 1B. Unwise all around.
One too many Ken Forsches there
In other news, goddamn Blogger's broken again.

Other Manny Deal Killers
It's also been reported that Manny would want to negotiate an EXTENSION with his new team before approving any trade (remember, Manny can veto any trade).
And it's been reported that there's NO WAY Manny will DH full time. He wants to play in the field.
Hard to see how a Manny deal will ever be consumated with the Angels (or any other team, for that matter).

Manny
Don't trade anybody
Well now, let's not be hasty
no way..
I'm totally fine with not doing this trade in any form, I hope these guys come fast especially on offense so someone can start protecting Vlad. Anyone that feels their 'plugged in' enough to have a valid prediction of who the 25 man roster out of camp will be? I have a feeling '07 will be the year these guys really make a splash. I hope the big name prospects rake at at least triple A this year. Lineup if Morales isn't on the big club:
Figgins - 3B
Cabrera - SS (he'll bitch otherwise)
Vlad - RF
GA - LF
Guillen - DH (D-Mac righties unless he's hurt or Guillen is tearing it up)
Erstad - CF
Kotchman - 1B (obviously move him up if he's tears it up but why not start him low?)
Molina/Mathis - C
Kennedy - 2B
Maybe this is a stupid question but...
yup, I'm an idiot
Just say no to Manny
I was at the Big A picking out season seats on Wednesday. The optimism of fellow Angel fans was contagious. The 2006 Halos are going to go deep into October WITHOUT Manny Ramirez. The Angels do not need him. Put my money where my mouth is? I already paid Arte. "Just another Halo victory!"
Hear, Hear
The Red Sox offers so far have been insulting. I wouldn't trade Santana straight up for that guy. Agree that we don't need him. If you want to re-open talks with KC about Sweeney, then I'll listen, but PLEASE, no Manny Ramirez.
Carry on
Playing Manny Ramirez in left field is like having an Egyptian ferry boat captain leave on the first life boat. Lord Jim or Lord Manny? Joseph Conrad if you please!
Vote no on Manny! Keep him in Boston!
fine with me...
The As and us are pretty much neck and neck. Both defenses should be solid and both pitching staffs should be as well. The one advantage we have is we don't have any flakes or punks. (like Bradley for instance)
You blog is being posted....

Is there any more news on this?
Rumor Has It
Twenty years ago I took a boat trip from Surat Thani to Koh Samui in southern Thailand. After disembarking I checked for mail at the Na Thon post office. I then browsed for used books in an open-air market. A fellow American came up to me and said the manager of the beach hut where he was staying had described to him the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. This was prior to there being wide-spread television on Koh Samui. This tale had a ring of truth to it. I passed the word on to other expats on Lamai Beach with the caveat that the story was not confirmed. The following day the Bangkok Post newspaper confirmed the tragic story.
That was a rumor I passed on after receiving it in person. I am old fashioned to think that in person is more concrete than hearing about it on the internet. In my Air Force days the rumors were correct about one-third of the time. I am confident that the Rev has a batting average higher than that.
If Jeff and Jared Weaver are in the same rotation the Angels could be called the Dream Weavers of Anaheim. Yes, for the record I was at the Big A on 9/17/67 when Reggie Jackson hit his first major league home run off of Jim Weaver. Being at that game was one of the dividends I got for belonging to the Junior Angels Club! Somewheres in our garage I have a wide-angle b & w photo of Reggie-ru about to cross home plate after hitting his only home run as a member of the Kansas City A's. And 17 years later to the day I saw Reggie Jackson hit his 500th career home run off of Bud Black of the Royals. There was a Kansas City/Anaheim connection for both of those milestone home runs.

it doesn't work that way
However, your source was clearly wrong that the "ink [was] dry" on Saturday, because if it were, it would have been announced by now. Your source can't claim a victory if the announcement is today, tomorrow, next week, or sometime in spring training. He was wrong, plain and simple. You got owned.
Your source, much like your pretentious, condescending, spiteful, and ignorant writing, is full of garbage.
Is Weaver a right handed version of Vladimir Guerrero? LOL!

I , in fact, think that it WILL get done. People are just calling him out on his source claiming it was a done deal and would be announced by the team on Monday.

Tic.....
Your credibility has been bitch-slapped .
by The Empire on Feb 10, 2006 12:49 AM PST reply actions
Huh?
Here's how I see it:
A month or so ago, there was minor rumblings of the Angels possibly being interested in Weaver. Very minor, but they were out there.
Then a week ago (either the day of or the day before Rev reported that his "source" said Weaver was a done deal) the LA Times had a blurb saying the Angels are again interested in Weaver.
I think Rev thought "Hell, I'll "break" the story and report it as finalized before anything happens." If he's right, big deal, he put 1 and 1 together and rolled the dice. Now iff he's wrong, what does he have to lose? It's not like he's some credible reporter anyway. And if he's wrong, he can make up some b.s. excuse and blame it on his "source".

Re: TROLLS
I've been reading this blog since it was on livejournal. I'm only stating my opinion on why the story hasn't been reported yet. I could be wrong, but it's just my take on what's happened (or not happened, actually.)
by SABRJoe @ Halos Heaven on Feb 10, 2006 12:37 PM PST reply actions
And why shouldn't we???
Instead if/when Weaver is signed you will puf up your chest and proclaim that you "scooped" this story. You did not. Understand this, you and your source called it, and you called it wrong.
When you admit that... then you might earn some integrity back, along with a little credibility.

that ink has been dry
here's my BOLD prediction. Jeff Weaver will sign with the Angels sometime within the next 60 days
I'll say he signs tomorrow, if he doesn't, he'll sign next tuesday, if not next tuesday, then he'll sign on March 15, but the point is, once Weaver is signed, I can tell you all that I CALLED it correctly. I mean, Rev Halo here said he was gonna be signed last Monday, now, that wasn't the case, but, according to him, he "called" it so if it indeed does happen, he can say he "broke the story"

Well,,it looks like
"The Angels expect to receive an answer today from Weaver, who has been courted by several teams, including the Rangers and Cleveland Indians. The Angels originally offered Weaver a one-year deal plus an option for 2007, but they are believed to have bumped their offer to two years.
Angel owner Arte Moreno said he would like an answer by today so that if Weaver signs with the Angels, he can be in camp for the start of workouts Thursday. But it is unclear how firm Moreno's deadline is or whether the offer will be pulled if Weaver does not accept it by today."
