Does Dice K excel in the Playoffs?
Let's start the day with some positive thinking!
From the OC Register:
MYSTERY PITCHER
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Matsuzaka is a bit of a mystery to him, too. Matsuzaka pitched Japan past Cuba in the decisive game of last year's World Baseball Classic but was just 1-3 with a 7.52 ERA, 21 strikeouts, nine walks and six hit batsmen in 20 1/3 innings of postseason baseball while pitching in the Japanese leagues.
YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!

It's still not MLB playoffs (obviously)
Remember how much Adam Stern kicked ass for Canada in the WBC? Where is he now?

Q: "Does Dice-K excel in the playoffs?"
Yes, obviously that referred to the Dominican winter league, seeing as how Dice-K plays in the Dominican Republic in the off-season. Totally obvious.
I'm sorry, you guys: Whenever we talk about the playoffs from now on I'll assume we're actually speaking about winter ball in the Dominican. Also, whenever we talk about the Super Bowl I'll make sure to keep in mind that what we're really talking about is the large teriyaki bowl at City Wok. March Madness? Oh, right, the Spring sale at Mervyn's. The Masters? You mean Rembrandt and Vermeer, right?
Glad we're all on the same page now!

That was funny,
The orignial author of the diary cited some numbers from the Japanese baseball league so I see no reason that these other situations are not relevant.

Hauldog mentioned
So I brought up Kendrys post season stats from CUBA and DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
CUBAN baseball is just as good if not better that JAPANEES baseball (They faced eachother in the World Baseball Classic).
So the point is that I can say Kendry is good in the postseason based on what he did in Cuba/DWL and that Dice K sucks in the postseason based on what he did in Japan.

If I may...
The keys for the Angles to prevail against Dice-K are the following:
- At OTM we joking refer to Dice-K as "Dice-BB" because he walks a lot of hitters. This will suit the Angels very, very well as no team gets from 1st to 3rd better. So if Dice-K starts to walk a lot of hitters - base running will be the key. Advantage Angels
- ...But, he also can pound the strike zone, so getting folks other than Vlad two hit a couple of singles or doubles will be key. I have a feeling this will be a game that really relies on "small ball". This should be exciting as the Red Sox are very good defensively this year and the Angels are great at moving runners so watching them battle it out with more runners on base should be interesting. Advantage - split
- Right field. By now I'm sure you've all heard the crap about right field at Fenway being the toughest in the league to field in. This could be a key factor in allowing runners to move into scoring position.Slight advantage Sox
- Dice-K's 1st inning versus the Angels bullpen. Dice-K's pattern has typically been to have a nervous 1st inning where the opposition scores, then he settles and becomes unhittable. Often, the oppostion has won by getting to him early and preventing the Sox from scoring. Dice-K had some 12+ games this season with 2 or less runs of support. Hard to win like that. Dice-K has an advantage here as the Angels hitters haven't faced him and he's had a full season to adjust to AL hitters. On the other side of the coin, the Sox hitters often wear down the bullpen at the end of games...we saw a lot of come from behind wins this year as a result. Therefore this game could come down to whether the Angels bullpen has a better/worse day on the mound than Dice-K's starting inning.Advantage Sox

Lack of run support...
Sounds like MySpace prior to this season.
