A's DFA Milton Bradley

Per MLB.com and they've got something up on Athletics Nation as well.  Apparently he had a bit of a dust-up after the game last night.

Star-divide

Not sure if this is really going to affect the team on the field that much since he's been absent from so many games, but you have to think that this makes a lot more likely that they'll be active in the trade market.  Don't be surprised to see Dunn end up in Oakland.

Have to say that I agree with Nico at AN.  It's a head scratcher, but you have to give a GM like Beane the benefit of the doubt.

Goodbye Board Game.
All the love from the ALCS got used up pretty quickly.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

Dunn wearing green?
I have a hard time beliving that Dunn, king of strikeouts, fits into Beane's philosophy with the A's.
East coast bias

A's and strikeouts
Jason Giambi - Over 100 Ks six times
Matt Stairs - Averaged over 100 Ks in his three best years in Oakland
John Jaha - 130 Ks in his one good year in Oakland
Nick Swisher - 150 Ks last year
Eric Chavez - Averaged over 100 Ks per season since 2000.

Power and plate discipline.  In fact, there's an argument to be made that those players are much more prone to strike outs because a) they swing bigger, and b) they tend to take a lot of pitches, which invariably leads to more 2 strike counts.

That's like saying
A player doesn't fit into Scioscia's system because he doesn't walk enough.

A's:  Just draw walks.  Take pitches. We don't care if it leads to more strikeouts.

Angels:  Swing.  Put the ball in play.  Walks are overrated anyway.

If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.

Maybe there's just no room for him?
The A's have been putting Jason Kendall in the outfield in whenever Kurt Suzuki is behind the plate. With Suzuki doing well, and Piazza coming back from the DL, they don't have much room left in the outfield between Kendall, Kotsay, Cust and Swisher (and that's even before we talk about the boys riding the pine).

Maybe after this latest incident, and with his tendency to spend more time on the DL than the field, they decided they could afford to lose him.

no room for him??
thats bogus, he is their second best hitter behind swisher when he is healthy..they could have made room for him

i'm not buying the 'no room' argument either
on the field, there's room for a guy like MB.

in the locker room? not so much.

When a team has no hitting, and they get rid of...
....a Milton Bradley.

You know the guy must be the biggest asshole ever.

by bc56274 on Jun 21, 2007 1:06 PM PDT reply actions

A simple decision really
Guy has been unreliable health-wise

Guy has been a hot-head in the past and flipped out at an ump last night

Guy still has some trade value

No GM believes two-faced Billy Beane when he calls up with trade offers, so the DFA is an official announcement that the A's are looking for the best offer over the next ten days.

Reminder - this is a SIMPLE decision, not a GENIUS decision.
Trading Ethier for Bradley was not a GENIUS decision either.
There is one genius GM named Bill in the AL West and it is not Bavasi or Beane.

Goodbye ten cent head
The real loser in all of this has got to be his wife, who about now is probably signing up for self-defense classes at the local community center.
What the hell is Harry Reems doing managing the Astros?!?
