SBN: Angels Get 5 Stars for Trade Deadline Haul

The informed and unbiased coverage of ALL teams is one reason you all should be checking SBN.com and SBNLA.com every day instead of JeterThroaters like ESPN, nor the local fishwrap's Bloom-Whicker-Plaschke dinosaurs who couldn't even make it as regular posters here. SBN and its hubs are just flat out better coverage with no geographic bias.

SRod vs BWood

SRod doesn't look much better than BWood in their last 10 games.

OT, But Ozzie Guillen's Got a Beef Against MLB

Does Ozzie have a point? As crazy as the man is, I think he might.

Red Sox made competitive offer for Fuentes

Obviously no one knows what that offer really was, but even if it was for very little, I would've liked to have seen Fuentes traded, since I doubt the team offers him arbitration.

Richards to Rancho, Trout Sits for the Night

Just a couple more observations from the farm tonight: Garrett Richards appears to have been promoted to the Quakes, and is starting tonight against High Desert. Quite an assignment, since the Mavericks lead the Cal League in every batting category. Meanwhile, Mike Trout has been in something of a tailspin the past two weeks, with only one hit against nine strikeouts in his past five games, while hitting .200 over his past ten. Looks like they gave him the night off.

Kid Conger Back Behind the Plate.

Unfortunately, he's catching Daniel Cabrera tonight, who can't seem to get a single Portland Beaver out.

Mariners trying to trade Figgins?

Is it the salary?..........or the dugout brawl?.........or general ineptitude?

The reality of baseball today goes something like this: seven financial monsters – the New York teams, the Chicago teams, Boston, Philadelphia and the Angels – control much of the game’s power structure with their financial might. Other teams will come in and out – Houston and Seattle dropped themselves and Detroit is likely to join soon, while the Los Angeles Dodgers eventually will return under new ownership – and the rest fall into two categories: the got-a-chances (Minnesota, St. Louis, San Francisco, Atlanta) and the say-a-prayers (Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Arizona and the patron saint, Tampa Bay).
