Fresh Meat Trade Rumor

Will Kevin Gregg be traded for a veteran left-handed bench bat? The Angels sure as heck won't be picking up any of Esteban Yan's $1.25 million salary in a trade, but would swap Yan for a bigger contract.

A friend in the organization told me "If Ruben Sierra hadn't gotten banged up the other day, he'd probably be an Angel by opening day." He had no idea of who Minnesota was aiming at of Yan or Gregg, indicating Tampa Bay was either competing in the discussion or was involved in a three way trade.

I Hope There's No Trade
Because they've got a veteran left handed bat who won't complain about sitting much of the time in Curtis Pride.

Pride is a nice story, but...
he had better not be on the 25 man roster at all this season.

Because...
he ain't that good.

Period.

That is a guy that they shouldn't be wasting AB's on.  McPherson is a better bet to be useful than Pride.

Well...
...I'm glad to see you can qualify your opinion with thoughtful analysis. As for me, while I'll never claim he's the second coming of Roy Hobbs, I like the fact he hustles from sun up to sun down, has a knack for getting hits in clutch situations, has little bit of pop in his bat, won't be a distraction on the bench as he would certainly understand his role, making him a consummate team player. He's also an inexpensive option compared to other possibilities. The Angels must have similar thoughts, otherwise he wouldn't be back for his third season with them.

Hustle
usually makes up for a lack of production.  That is why Pride is a career 4A player.

i dunno
Hustle often implies the potential of production where the true ability to produce at the top level doesn't even exist - what if HUSTLE is a bad thing?

do the Hustle
it's a dance. why do you think they called Pete Rose "Mr. Hustle"? it's because that guy practically lived at Studio 54.

Hustle = suspended for life
Wasn't Shoeless Joe another big hustle guy?

true
I was thinking of Mr. Erstad while tying the hustle post.  I would believe Ersty is the new baseball definition of HUSTLE.

D-Rays
I remember reading earlier in the offseason that the  Angels were interested in Joey Gathright.  Now that the two teams have a link with each other I wonder if Gregg could possibly used in a deal that would land Juan Pierre II.
